So was on strong antibiotics for an infection two weeks ago. Took probiotics, loads of natural yoghurt etc but I’ve developed thrush. It’s been years since I’ve had this and it’s awful omg. I can’t sleep etc.
I live in Ireland and we can’t get any otc medication except for canesten and canesten pessary.. In order for me to get the oral medication (which I know worked really well for me before) I have to pay 50 euros to see a gp and more money for the prescription..yup..
I used the pessary Thursday night and definitely noticed a big improvement on Friday morning, it’s Saturday and it’s back with a vengeance. TMI but i think I mightn’t have put it up far enough. How far should it go up ?(sorry) I have issues with the applicator and was using my fingers. I have problems with this anyway as really struggle with things like this like I don’t ever use tampons etc.
Can I try another pessary? How long should it take to work. It’s the weekend , dh working all day , 3 active kids and it’s driving me crazy. A weekend dr here is 80 euros +the cost of the mediation.. I’ve tried tea tree oil , natural yogurt , cotton underpants etc.. Any advice or experiences with pessary welcome

@Emmnooo
Are you near the border ?
Have you a friend/family up north that could get it for you ?
Lots of tablets can be bought over the counter in NI compared to RoI.
Here if you have no medical card you have to pay minimum €60 to a doctor and then pay for the prescription.

It's dreadful the way the pharmacies/ Pharmaceutical Union have things all their own way in the republic.
The government need to grow a pair and help the people who vote them in rather than business.
Sad

@LadyEloise, are you in Ireland? Yes, it’s just unbelievable the difference, I lived in the Uk years ago and the difference of walking into a chemist and getting it for 3 euros vs 50/60 euro gp visit plus the medication which I think in Ireland could be up to 15euros so over 70 euro of a difference!!!!
Also I just don’t get how Ireland is so much for a gp when we pay tax , it’s just obscene. It actually stops plp going to see their dr.

That’s why everyone takes so long in the drs though!! When I go in I get them to check my main issue, take bloods , have a look at my many moles, sure let’s check my blood pressure (why not) , is my skin looking a bit blotchy , what’s that lump........

I find going knickerless and drying myself down there with a hairdryer (on cooler setting!) really effective for clearing some of the infection. Otherwise oral medication works best but also pessaries so long as they are put as high up as possible.

Get the cream with hydrocortisone in it, I had thrush that looked like I had been burnt, my skin was peeling, it was so bad the sexual health doctor didn't need to do a full examination, she just gave me a prescription for the oral tablet, one a day for a week & the stronger cream. You can buy the cream that is labelled for athletes foot,it is the same one.
