Omg what the fuck is this?! They are awful!!! Awful plastic applicator, awful discomfort. I’m worried that women might think that is normal?!

Ah its tampax compak pearl i use. Think they expand differently to just tampax compak. They go too long for me

i like Tampax Pearl and the normal Compak.. i LOATHE the pearl compak ones, they're impossible to grip for me.

I’ve genuinely chosen to use a sanitary towel as I found them so uncomfortable compared to a non applicator product...?

I could never get on with tampons as I’d only tried these and found them dreadfully painful.

Now I use Lillets non applicator - they are great!

I find tampax pearl the best, and tampax compak next best thing. Compak Pearl were the worst ever for me (I found they always broke and were so uncomfortable). Hate cardboard applicators as well so the normal tampax with cardboard applicator are no good for me. And wouldn't and couldn't ever use any brand one without an applicator or a cardboard applicator, for me it has to be sturdy plastic so it actually works as I found cardboard ones useless the one time I did try them (got them by mistake).

Spent years with tampons - tampax were the only ones that fitted and expanded ok for me. But bloody hell years of period pain - one month no tampax in locally - so use san towels and the pain halved or maybe even less - so san towels it stays. I like the cardboard applications though and the plastic I found a bit ‘pinchy’ but lillets I never ever got on with - ever

They're the only ones I get on with.

I have tried all the cardboard applicator ones and they just don't work.

There are a lot more places that plastic use should be cut before sanitary products for women imo.

The plastic applicator Tampax were only launched in the UK in the 90s. Before that there were only cardboard and non applicator ones. I remember when plastic Tampax were launched here thinking that they were very wasteful ( I thought the same of Nespresso pods when they were launched too), but after trying the regular pearl ones I do prefer and buy them. My current ones are cardboard Tampax bought by mistake. They're ok but don't glide as well as pearl. I don't like the compact ones which always seem more hassley and I've sometimes pulled the wrong bit before inserting and have to bin the applicator because I can't put it together again.

There is a brand of reusable applicators, by which I mean the applicator is reusable, rather than the tampon. I assume it's still plastic, but at least it isn't single use. I haven't used them, though, as I use a menstrual cup these days. Can't remember the brand name, nor the price, just that I was in Waitrose, so it probably wasn't cheap, though could be more cost effective long term, I don't know, because I haven't done the calculations.

It's not really a surprise we don't all get on with the same types and brands, because we are not all the same shape and size.

@PurpleDaisies the thing is - all single use plastic is awful. Plastic applicators make a world of difference to a lot of women - so let’s go after banning other things first eh?

I never realised the uncomfortable dragging feeling was a result of tampons. Its soo much more comfortable with a cup than o could ever have imagined.

Applicator tampons are alot more difficult to use which I didn't realise til i went non applicator.

But a cup is soooo much better
