Music/piano teachers- is this unusual?

I recently bought a piano.
My 12 son has taken to picking out tunes in it.
He can literally pick out any tune and play it perfectly within 2/3 plays.
I think it’s remarkable, but is it really?
He can sing well too

So, e.g
First attempt to pick out the tune, he’d stumble on maybe 2 or 3 notes.
2nd time he’d get it perfect.
Just with right hand

Then he’d add stuff in with left hand if he wanted to learn the whole song

Why did you buy a piano, op? Do you play? That could explain his talent. Has he asked for lessons? Playing by ear is all very well, but being able to read music is a good skill to have too.

I’ve always wanted a piano and I thought if it was just there, he might play around on it. He’d picked up a few tunes on a keyboard that my Dad lent us, showed interest.
The piano was only £50 btw, second hand.
It’s gorgeous too
