Best men's pavement running shoes under £50?

Hubby has been looking for ages, tried a few and hates them. Bought a pair of Nike's but they're so ridgid and they hurt his feet and ankles. Old reliable pair have give up the ghost now so desperate for some new. We have a budget of around 50, so what trainers do runners recommend?

DW does a lot of running on the pavement, and really likes Decathlon ones. She pays about £30 a pair and they last about 6 months.

Thankyou I'll look in to those

There is no ‘best’, everyone is different.

You’re better off going to a proper running shop and getting them to do a gait analysis, and they’ll recommend a pair for you.

There are no running shops around here. Best we have is a sports direct or a JD sports 😬
I'm just looking for opinions

You can do it yourself at home, though obviously not as well. The wet footprint test tells you what type of shoe you need

My go to brand is sauconcy, but I’ve also had some ASICs, Hoka and Adidas. I’m also not a fan of Nike, I find them too light weight and a bit pricey. I haven’t tried them, but a lot of my running buddies have Brooks and they’re known for extra cushioning.

You’re spoilt for choice really.

Redcrayons is right, no one can recommend what will suit your husband.
If you really only have JD or SD to choose from then I would go to SD and just try on as many as possible. They won't let you run outside to test them (a proper running shop will) so it'll be a gamble.
Honestly, if he's serious and also if he's anything other than tinkerbell on his feet then it's worth getting good running shoes.

nb I am a competitive road runner.

If you can't get to a sports shop, the link above is a good one. But what you buy comes down to what you need - everyone is different. I wore Saucony for years, bought the same pair of trainers 6 times. Then they made a slight tweak to the design and now I wear Brooks. But Brooks trail shoes don't suit me at all. And whilst Asics are useless for me, I know lots of people who swear by them.

If you are on a £50 budget, you're going to have to buy something in the sales (which is fine, just means you'll have a lot less choice), or something which probably won't last and is therefore a false economy.

If you're only doing a few miles every now and again, you can probably get away with wearing the wrong trainers, but it is the cause of so many injuries...

Most towns have a sports shop of some description- you can't be that far away from one, to get advice at least.

I love Brooks for comfort. But I always get them fitted at a proper running shop. They are around double your budget though

Depending on foot shape and gait type look Mizuno (I like the wave Rider and Kizuna), Saucony (Kinvara), Innov8 and Asics on the link above.

Amazon also has quite a lot of shoes, but use the descriptions on sports shoes to decide likely styles

Wiggle also has running stuff as well as cycling.

Thankyou everyone. Really helpful

I can’t be the only one that thought you were looking for a pair of trainers for a best man at a wedding!

Pricklylittlecactus · 02/10/2020 20:37

From that link he needs support shoes. He runs 2 miles, 3 times a week. He plays golf or crosstrains the rest of the time, so already spends a lot on sportswear already. The last pair were under armour and they were fab. He's looking at the under armour hover shoes at the moment
