Headache for almost a week in 6 year old?

Not sure what to do..!

My DD6 has had a headache on and off for almost a week now. And tired all the time. At first I didn’t really believe her...(!) but it’s not getting better and is waking her up at night.
Painkillers shift it for a bit but it comes back.
Couldn’t get GP yesterday but I’ll try again when they open.

Any ideas please? None of the others have ever had anything like this!

Has she had an eye test recently? I get almost constant headaches when my prescription changes.

I hate to say it but the Zoe app says headache and fatigue are the main symptoms of covid in children... I know it isn't one of the three official symptoms but in children it's different. Talk to your GP though, they are best placed to decide.

Could it be migraine? My daughter went through a stint of them at that age but has thankfully now outgrown them.

Eyes or dehydration would be my first guess. If that's doesn't help, I'd be taking her to the doctor.

Eyes
Dehydration
Clenching teeth at night
Stress/anxiety
Tiredness
Eating properly and regularly

Or, migraines- my DS got diagnosed aged 6 with migraines after 10 months of pain (and going through many many tests to rule out other things).

Is there a history of it in the family?

InvincibleInvisibility · 03/10/2020 06:28

When it was migraines for my son, pain killers worked for an hour at most. He needed 2 weeks of a preventive treatment to see an improvement

Poor little soul.

Head pain is utterly miserable and incredibly hard to distract from.
(Serious migraine sufferer here)

Hope Dr sorts effective pain relief & she's feeling better asap.
