I am in so much pain!!!
I’ve tried:
Hydrocortisone
Cocoa butter
Aveeno
Aesop balm
Hustle butter (!)

I cannot bear it!! Please please advise on anything that could work?!

I suffered with contact dermatitis and discovered through trial and error that it's caused by an ingredient called Linalool - it's in a LOT of stuff (including (off the top of my head) a lot of Child's Farm products, all L'Oréal shampoos I've looked at, most Nivea face creams, all soap and glory stuff, Surf washing capsules, Bold washing capsules, flash (the liquid and the cleaning wipes)...)

It came completely out of the blue

Have a look to see if it's in the stuff you use most often x

larrythelizard · 02/10/2020 17:50

Oh, and flare ups have only gone away with a super strong hydrocortisone cream from the Dr - but avoiding Linalool stops it happening.

DirtyDeeds · 07/10/2020 21:15

I’ve tried a few of these but it’s getting worse... gonna phone the docs tomorrow!!!

Which ones did you try in the end @DirtyDeeds? Sorry to hear it's not improving. Would definitely ask the doc about Betnovate or a similar steroid cream to ease it quickly for a short term period.

Hi
I have palmoplantar psoriasis on hands and feet that flares up occasionally .
First of all take an antihistamine tonight to stop the itching
Next try a very thick product like oilatum , thick plain cream if possible , anything with oats too would be good.
Don’t use sudocream as will dry it out even more.
Aveeno is a good cream ( not the lotion) and even good old fashioned Vaseline at night with cotton gloves.
You say it’s very red and hot which suggests could be infected so a trip to pharmacist is a good start tomorrow too.But for tonight deffo take antihistamine to ease the symptoms

I also have Pompholyx and find that any cream makes it worse but that ointments help. I use Zeroderm as often as possible including an absolute ton of it in gloves at night. This combined with prescription steroids helps but it never really goes away. UV treatment helped but that's not available at the moment.

Badabingbadabum · 07/10/2020 21:57

Ooo, I have pompholyx on my fingers, as well as some flare ups of eczema. Sweat, stress and now constant handwashing (dds recent stomach upset caused particular discomfort!) all make it worse. I have steroid creams but I have found salicylic acid helps heal up the blisters quickly and for a barrier, anything with glycerine in.

DirtyDeeds · 07/10/2020 22:25

Hi @JustSaying101 - so I’ve been trying calendula and a non chemical eczema cream and then an emolient at night including gloves!!
I’ve taken a piriton @Gohackyourself to help me sleep as well as help with the itching! I do take loratadine every day but I’m not afraid to double up - under a lot of stress at work so sleep is essential

I have pompholyx eczema too on hands and one foot. It's been really bad this year and had to resort to GP as my hands in particular were terrible, bright red, sore, itchy, cracked, full of blisters and it had spread to under a nail which had then gone super manly (and one bit dropped off 🤢) GP gave me steroid cream that was doing very little - it was bringing it down a little but it would flare back up between doses plus it was doing nothing for the nail at all. I also realised that I couldn't use steroid cream forever so needed to try something else.

So I tried using Tropic skin care tamanu balm (which had been effective in mild flare ups before but hadn't worked on its own on this) but had the bright idea of mixing it with a couple of drops of vitamin e oil. Amazing. It was SO much better within 2 days. My DH was amazed when I showed him! It's been a couple weeks and my hands look pretty good now. Very little redness but the palms still feel a bit dry and crispy to the touch. Having to use lots of soap and sanitiser isn't helping their recover m to be fair though! They aren't painful or itchy at all now and the bottom of the dodgy nail looks like it's clearing up where the nail comes through thankfully.

So I would recommend trying this but imagine different things will work for different people and different types of eczema. I use solgar vitamin e oil which comes in a bottle with a dropper.

JamieLeeCurtains · 07/10/2020 22:44

I had this at the same time as severe psoriasis (lucky me, eh).

Enstilar worked.

It's a strong steroid foam.

ElectricEels · 08/10/2020 09:04

I can highly recommend tacrolimus ointment. It's an immunomodulator that they prescribe when steroids don't work.

My hands have looked like the photo on the left for ten years even using the strongest steroid (and have tried everything else) and this is 3 weeks after starting the tacrolimus. I also use aveeno hand cream throughout the day as it's the only one that doesn't make me flare. Epaderm ointment is also great for a moisture boost.

Eczema/dermatitis on hands... heeeeeelllpppp
SweetPetrichor · 08/10/2020 10:28

I use Dermol 500 or similar to wash hands rather than soap, and aloe gel as a moisturiser. It’s not perfect but it keeps my hands from falling apart! A good barrier cream would be helpful but I have big issues with textures and the feeling of thick barrier creams freaks me out so I only use it when I really have to.

dontgobaconmyheart · 08/10/2020 12:18

Dont 'double up' on anything without checking with a GP.

I feel for you OP, I suffer with it and it always flares up with the change of weather. Yours sounds like you're really suffering though Flowers.

I would go to see the pharmacist tbh just because they're quicker and will see you in person, see what they say, and speak to the GP when you can. Overuse of hydrocortisone can make things worse, I've heard.

It may be of next to no help since everyone seems to be different but when I'm in dire straights I wash my hands frequently in warm water and olive oil and pat dry. It offers me so much relief.

Creams wise I find dermol ok to wash with or use as a cream, eucerin 10% urea paste, vaseline and cream and gloves every time I go outside as a preventative. Eumovate also has proved helpful in the past. Just bought a bottle of the childs farm to try- I'm going to test it on a random leg patch rather than my hands though!

Hope you can get some relief asap OP Flowers

Diprobase. It is fabulous.

Another Vote for hemp body shop hand cream.

I’ve tried everything for two years and finally starting to see some results (even seen a dermatologist for it!

  • switched to Ecover zero for everything in the house. Even found method products too strong
  • hemp body shop cream
  • wear gloves for everything
  • put clothes on extra rinse (this has cured my sons eczema)
  • Use Persil no bio powder and the smallest amount I can get away with!
  • turned central heating down at night

Good luck- it’s awlful. Really hope these tips help
