Best way to treat mouldy bathroom ceiling?

I’ve moved into a house with a mouldy bathroom ceiling. Is cleaning with bleach sufficient? Is there anything I can paint over it to prevent it happening again? I think it’s been a ventilations problem which I can sort (fan now fixed and opening windows) but need to get rid of mould already there.

Cif Perfect Finish Mould Stain Remover is excellent but really strong so wear gloves and a mask and ventilate the room for the rest of the day

Most mould removers seem to contain bleach, so wear a shower cap (if you're doing the ceiling) and goggles and old clothes as well!

Good idea, thank you!!

Use a mould remover as above and then also paint with an anti-mould paint.

We got Ronseal anti mould paint I think it was, cleaned the ceiling with Dettol anti mould spray and painted it. It's not got mouldy since. I got the paint from E bay.

Yep, just been out and checked the tin, it's Ronseal 6 year anti mould paint.

Astonish mould and mildew remover. Fab stuff.

ThePickleMan · 30/09/2020 21:23

Thanks for the Ronseal paint tip, I will do that as it all needs re-painting. It seems anything bleachy will do the job to get rid of it.

Cilit bang mold spray is better than any other I've tried. Messes up your skin though, so wear gloves! Goggles too if it's the ceiling!
Try and keep it well ventilated afterwards, that will help to prevent it.

I second Cillit bang black mould remover, it is brilliant. It works on the pink mould that can appear in showers too. I agree with pp who say cover up, open a window too, it's strong stuff.

Milton (or other bottle steriliser) in a spray bottle. Then once it's dried mold resistant paint.
