I live above a mother and her two kids, the mother doesn't work but she has recently got married. One of the kid is starting to work now but doesn't work all the time. The husband use to work but is now not working. I feel the son is getting paid cash in hands and they are reporting this.I know I will probably get abused for writing this but I feel if they are doing nothing wrong, then if I report them it should be fine.

You have ZERO evidence they're doing anything wrong, a "feeling" is not evidence!

Being paid in cash DOESN'T necessarily mean they are paid "cash in hand" ie not reporting tax etc, lots of jobs payment is in cash perfectly legally

And NO if you report you have suspicions it's not harmless!

Any and all benefits will be stopped immediately likely leaving them skint and they will have their lives and finances gone through with a fine toothed comb.

Don't be a dick!

None of your business!

You're annoyed at them because of noise issues? Then address that! It does NOT prove they're acting illegally re work/finances.

The tv might be on all day/night because someone there works shifts? Again not illegal (the working shifts)

But if the tv is too loud complain about and deal with that - or move,

Scweltish · 30/09/2020 12:31

You want to report your neighbours for benefit fraud because you don’t like the sound of their telly? But you’ve not got a single piece of evidence that they’re actually commuting fraud?

user1480436542 · 30/09/2020 19:23

Surely they must be getting benefits if the only person who works is the son unless they are secret millionaires.

Hmm
MondeoFan · 30/09/2020 19:32

I feel like you are just guessing. What would you say if you reported? The son sometimes works and sometimes doesn't?
I work part time would my neighbours think I'm committing benefit fraud too as sometimes I work abs sometimes not!

Glumgal · 30/09/2020 19:43

@user1480436542

Surely they must be getting benefits if the only person who works is the son unless they are secret millionaires.
So what if they are? The sons income (declared or not) will have no bearing whatsoever on the parents' benefit entitlement.
Crocky · 30/09/2020 19:44

And what exactly would be wrong with them receiving benefits? I don’t understand.

Crocky · 30/09/2020 19:46

The one good thing that Universal Credit does is adjust for occasional income. So if the son is managing to get temporary work then good on him.

Clymene · 30/09/2020 19:49

But what have they done to make you think they are benefit fraudsters? Sit at home and watch tv?

Graphista · 30/09/2020 19:55

Oh ffs you won't let it go will you!?!

ESPECIALLY right now it's entirely possible they WFH!

or work shifts, or yes perhaps they have an inheritance or a lottery win behind them....

Even IF they're on benefits it's absolutely NONE of your business!

I'm disabled and on benefits long term. I've HAD ignorant people pass comment right to my face that they believe I'm claiming fraudulently SIMPLY because my health issues aren't immediately visible!

I have a degenerative spinal condition and so far LUCKILY I'm not yet needing to use mobility aids and IN FACT have been cautioned against the temptation to do so when I'm having a bad day as maintaining the muscle tone and mobility I have at the moment is important.

I also have severe ocd which massively impacts my life and IS classed as a disability too, it's currently causing me to be housebound over 3 years as it makes me agoraphobic too. Even when I'm not housebound I am still agoraphobic (because it's far more complex than "just" keeping you "shut in") as I can only cope with travelling to certain places in certain ways on certain days at certain times.

I also have brittle asthma which can make me very ill at times.

NONE of which the smug, arrogant, ill informed idiots who accused me of fraud knew the FIRST thing about because...shocker...my medical history, financial and personal history were NONE OF THEIR DAMN BUSINESS!

@user1480436542

Sorry can you delete this thread. I have listened to your advice and I feel it was stupid. I will not report and allow them to get on with their lives. Sorry again
Well, that's almost certainly a load of bull. More like, "shut up, I don't want to hear your stupid arguments, I came on here for asspats and hugses, dammit!"
user1480436542 · 30/09/2020 20:23

I know they don't work because I do have some time off and I can see them sun bathing, going out to supermarkets.

OP posts:
DownThePlath · 30/09/2020 20:24

And? Mind your own fucking business!!

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/09/2020 20:28

wtf, just get on with your own bloody work

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/09/2020 20:39

You had problems with your neighbours tv for 4 years, why you not said anything?

Glumgal · 30/09/2020 20:42

@user1480436542

I know they don't work because I do have some time off and I can see them sun bathing, going out to supermarkets.
Hilarious.

I'm a supply teacher. I was furloughed from 20 March until 1st September. I have only had 9 days work since then. Guess what... I go to the supermarket and sit in my garden. Do you want to report me for benefit fraud 😂

islockdownoveryet · 30/09/2020 20:47

I live above a mother and her two kids, the mother doesn't work ok you know this maybe she works from home like you maybe she's still on furloughed of maybe she doesn't work .but she has recently got married. One of the kid is starting to work now but doesn't work all the time. Again may work from home some times , maybe flexi furloughed may just have a part time/ zero hour contract.
The husband use to work but is now not working. Again does he not wfh / furloughed/ made redundant I feel the son is getting paid cash in hands and they are reporting this.I
Hey what how do you come to that conclusion? .

Because I am sick of working from home everyday, listening to their tv all day and night. Well that's a different issue tell them to keep the noise down as you are working .
Why should I pay my taxes for people to abuse the system
How do you know this ? You suspect they are on benefits but why are they abusing the system ? So basically you feel if people get made redundant they shouldn't get any benefits? Oh god hun I really hope your job
is secure in these not so secure times .

Oh good you've realised how judgmental you are .

And we are back again Hmm

What happened earlier? Mam home early?

Graphista · 30/09/2020 21:12

I can see them sun bathing, going out to supermarkets.

Wtf!

Working people do this too!

@Butterer you laugh (and I agree it's absurd! So laughable from that perspective) but this is the kind of shit myself and others on benefits have had to put up with for years and it's getting worse!

Even though an awful lot of people who THOUGHT they had secure jobs and that benefits claimants were "less worthy" than them in some way...are now having to claim themselves!

DivisionBelles · 30/09/2020 21:24

What precise evidence do you have that the son is being paid 'cash in hand'? Unless you have witnessed him doing some covert work and a wadge of cash being pressed into his hand, then thinking this might be the case isn't the same as this is the case, and even then it might be totally legit. Seriously, mind your own business.

No offence felt @Butterer I knew you were being sarcastic rather than genuinely amused. Sorry you're in same boat - too many of us!

Just utterly sick of the prejudice of people like op against benefits claimants.

We're all people and being on benefits or not is VERY largely down to LUCK!

Much as certain people don't like hearing that as it means acknowledging not only that their perceived personal success isn't just down to them, but also that THEY are only one accident, one illness, one job loss, one divorce, one bereavement... away from being on benefits themselves...

alexdgr8 · 30/09/2020 22:32

is this for real.
how do you know so much about the private lives of these people.
they may be working from home, just like you do; perhaps they are wondering about reporting you, as you seem to do nothing all day except spy on their comings and goings.
how do you know how he is paid.
they may be self-employed.
one may be in receipt of disability support, and the other receiving carer's allowance (the princely sum of £67 a week), which are related to condition, and are not means tested.
