How much your car insurance costs depends on your age, type of car, where you live, your driving record and probably other factors. What others pay is irrelevant.

If you need to minimise it, look for a low insurance group car, consider a black box and make sure you know what your mileage will be approx, also the different levels of cover, social, domestic pleasure, commuting, business etc.

Thanks, I know that. But would still be very interested to know what others are paying!

Too bloody much £55 a month so about £660 a year at the moment. I'm 25 and drive a 1.4 petrol hybrid for context.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/09/2020 12:24

Mine is £240 per year. But I'm a safe and boring middle aged driver with a tiny car, probably living in a fairly low risk area.

Doesn't help you at all if you're a 21 year old footballer wanting to drive a Ferrari through central London.

Afibtomyboy · 29/09/2020 12:26

I’ve been quoted from £348 to £1150!

Thanks for the info

£200-ish a year for a mini 1.2. In my 40s, under 10 years licence but my husband (30+ years) is a named driver.

Depends where you live and what your car is though, doesn’t it?

cultkid · 29/09/2020 12:30

I was paying £1600 pa on an Audi A6 avante when I was 23-26

Now I have an arteon and it's a petrol engine
I'm 28 now and I still have no claims £550 pa

ComtesseDeSpair · 29/09/2020 12:32

This year I paid £135 for my ancient Smart Fortwo; £390 for my campervan; and £410 for my Audi TT. I’m 33, have been driving for seven years, had one at-fault accident in 2016 and one non-fault accident in 2018, and keep all the cars on the street in a London suburb.

Insurers profile risk differently, hence you’ll often see hundreds of pounds difference in quotes from different providers.

ComtesseDeSpair · 29/09/2020 12:32

Sorry, the fault accident was in 2014 so it’s now “fallen off” my record.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 29/09/2020 12:34

Bear in mind the cover is likely the be vastly different for such a huge variation in price. Third party only will be very different from a fully comprehensive cover with commuting for example. Even with comprehensive cover there may be a difference between if it includes personal injury, legal protection
And breakdown. Sometimes comparison sites arent very clear (Or even are incorrect) so do check on the policy documents you have the level of cover that is suitable for you.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 29/09/2020 12:35

About £200 for Ford Fiesta 2016 and DH about £300 for Nissan Xtrail 2014, we are both about 60 and been driving years and no points.

Pebblexox · 29/09/2020 12:38

£48 monthly, so it works out about £576. I'm 17, and have a 1.4 turbo Mazda 2.

Pebblexox · 29/09/2020 12:38

Nope. I'm 27*
Oh to be 17 again haha.

2011 plate VW Passat Estate, 2l.

mindutopia · 29/09/2020 12:47

Mine is about £250 a year. I have a big old safe volvo, am 40, never had an accident, private drive and I actually don't drive all that much (school runs, but then I work from home or it gets left at the station and I take the train).

shitinmyhandsandclap · 29/09/2020 12:57

£250/year fully comp for me and my partner on a new Qashqai, personal and business, breakdown cover, windscreen cover, courtesy car, personal injury cover, no accidents, many years NCB, about 10,000 miles/year give or take

LeSquigh · 29/09/2020 13:02

Early 40s, been driving for 6 years, only had one claim which was no fault, 12k miles a year, £350 ish on a 1.4 engine that is about ten years old. I also have my DP as a named driver which reduces it slightly.

MargaretHooper · 29/09/2020 13:02

£172 - old Ford Ka. Low annual mileage. Middle aged and rural!

TheGrayChapter · 29/09/2020 13:41
