need a handhold - df in hospital with covid

We are all so worried and not being able to see him is making this a thousand times harder. He's on 100% oxygen - I don't even know what that even means. This time last week he was so chatting and happy and in just a few days this.

Has anyone else gone through anything similar? Did your loved ones pull through?

Air has 21%oxygen and 79% nitrous and other stuff. So if he is on 100% it’s just that, pure oxygen.

I’m sorry this is happening to you and your family. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Sending you all the love and support. Both of my parents had it earlier this year - both were critical and we had 'end of life conversations' but both pulled through and are recovering well.

I know only too well how utterly helpless you feel but you just have to trust that they are in great hands. Do you have anyone with you?

Covid has been around for nearly a year and you see the videos of the patients on covid wards but you never think it would really happen to you until it does.

petitdonkey that's amazing that they recovered. He doesn't have youth on his side and when I speak to him he can barely talk. It's heartbreaking. How long were they in hospital for?

What type of oxygen is it OP? My little boy was on optiflow, Cpap and intubation last year so will try remember x

HeyDuggeeWhatYaDoin I hope your little boy is ok. Ok not sure what type of equipment it is. I think it's the oxygen tanks they have in the hospital. He has a tube that goes into his nose.

Just spoke to a nurse and he's stable. He seems a bit better but there's no saying how things will go. I hate not being able to be with him.

Yes, he is getting oxygen through breathing on his own, but by upping the concentration to 100% it means he is getting more of the oxygen in. So if you take a breath of air, you take 21%oxygen. If you have a nasal cannula or an oxygen mask , you take 100%. Hope it makes sense.

Please remember that treatments for Covid are better now than they were to start with; and if he is breathing his oxygen through his nose with no mechanical help, then he is doing well.

All you can do is hope - it must be so hard for you not being able to see him. Let us hope he will slowly recover. It does sound as though he is getting good care. Flowers

Thank you HeyDuggeeWhatYaDoin that does make sense. Another thing that is concerning me is that is it really uncomfortable and cause irritation. I just don't want him suffering on his own.

My 86 year old grand dad who has massively reduced lung function previous to COVID, got COVID and survived. He's not 100% yet but he's okay

Bless you and your dad OP. He sounds like he's doing quite well. The oxygen should help him. The fact that he is in a stable condition is excellent, his vital signs are most likely good X

From what I've learnt by following the news mainly, giving patients oxygen on time has been a major life-saver. All the best

bebarkered Coyoacan thank you for your messages. I can't sleep well and obviously can't text the rest of my family ar 3 in the morning but even some words from strangers make a difference.
