Is this normal for my lavender to dry in my garden?

What do I do with it? Should I cut it back & will it grow back next year?

As you can tell I'm no gardener!

Yep, cut it back. 🙂

Trim it. I have quite large lavender bushes so I used a hedge trimmer. You can use secateurs. Leave plenty of green though. If you cut back to the wood you'll probably kill it.

I'm not a gardener either, however DH gives ours a haircut every year, so it doesn't apparently go woody. He says it is one of the more pleasant jobs because it smells nice while you're cutting it back.

There's decent advice on pruning and caring for lavender plants on the Downderry Nursery website.

Ideally you would have cut it back by mid August to give it time to put on growth before winter, so don't cut back too harshly and as pp said don't cut back to wood as it'll die.

If you don't cut lavender back it turns really woody and straggly.

You need to cut lavender back before the winter - cut right back to the last set of green shoots but dont cut into the woody part.
