My son is 21 months. He sleeps in his cot and hasn't tried to climb out or anything just yet. But he's started to stir and wake up at night. I know he's still really young etc. But he's in a great routine and usually sleeps right through. He's got a night light and an Ollie Owl that we keep on the white noise setting. Because we've done that since birth. Someone suggested that maybe he's old enough to have a pillow and duvet? I still use the sleeping bags, which I've always felt more comfortable with. But do you think he's old enough for a pillow? What age did you all switch over? Thanks.

Dont loose the sleeping bag until you have to. Its wonderful for keeping them warm and tucked in. Duvet and pillows slide all over the place and fall off and all that wakes them up. I would suggest phasing out the night light, as darkness is better for deep sleep in most people.

DS started hating his sleeping bag from age 2 so we swapped to duvet and pillow then.

He also started waking up a lot more around that age - I think his brain changed a lot, he seemed to have more bad dreams etc. He stopped properly "sleeping through" and it's still not resolved at age 3.5 tbh.

Also- if he's still in a cot the duvet can't fall off so that isn't a problem. DS slept in cot with duvet until age 2.5 when he went into a bed. He clearly hated the sleeping bag though, was kicking his legs and saying "stuck" at bedtime, whereas it's not obvious that's what's waking your DC?

I avoided duvets whilst the sides were on a cot as they just gave opportunity to climb out!

Once the sides were off they got normal single duvet and super cheap and thin pillows (Asda value ones) and 4 ish years on my pair still use them.

@SeaToSki He used to sleep in darkness up until a couple of months ago. We tried a few different night lights and stuck with his glow worm that he turns on himself. But definitely could be that though! He's not shown any signs of not liking his sleeping bag. So going to try keep him in them as long as we can.

@kiwiblue Yeah it definitely could be that his brain is just more active and he's going through some sort of developmental stage maybe?

@kiwiblue aw that's good that he slept in his cot that long. Because I've been asked by friends if I'm going to get him a toddler bed. But he's not tried to climb out or anything. The sleeping bag doesn't seem to bother him just now.

@Kittykatmacbill Oh that's a really good point! I'll keep to the gro bags as long as I can I think. Will look into getting him a wee pillow though. Thanks

@MassEffectMum88 yeah we only got the bed when he managed to climb out which was at 2.5. Although actually switching him to the bed was fine! Also we didn't have any issues with the duvet in the cot.
