After DH and I have both found ourselves redundant from Covid, we have discovered Lidl! We spend £50-£60 per week for Us,
plus 2 DC (5yr and 5 Months) Our total is inclusive of Wipes / Nappies and the odd bottle of Wine.
Interested to know how that compares to others of a similar size Family!

£120ish plus £25 fruit & veg box

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 28/09/2020 11:42

£90 -£120 weekly, 2 adults. Not including various pets.

ginsparkles · 28/09/2020 11:49

Now it's £60-£80 depending a week. That's DH, me, Dd and Ddog. I used to shop at aldi pre covid and it was more like £50-60 but since lockdown I switched to Tesco for click and collect. Spend a bit more now, but am also buying more luxuries, I could rein it in if needed.

canigohomenow · 28/09/2020 12:04

It makes me ill to admit but about £140 for ten days for DH, the cat and I with a number of top up shops in between.

Our food spending has spiralled out of control during lockdown. So has our snacking and alcohol consumption but we're slowly getting it under control.

Squashbanana125 · 28/09/2020 12:19

£120-130 a week 2 adults 2 teens
I do weekly meal plan and it’s still this price. Do a mixture of Aldi and Asda or Sainsburys.
No idea how to get it cheaper. This includes washing tablets and washing lenor scented balls.

ohnonora · 28/09/2020 15:41

If all these fuckers keep buying all the pasta my shopping will be significantly less this week Angry

frustrationcentral · 28/09/2020 15:43

Probably between £100-130 on a weekly shop and a top up later in the week. Depends where I did the main shop - Aldi is considerably cheaper for us, but I alternate as we like a few branded bits

Two adults and two teenage boys..

woofwoof1880 · 28/09/2020 15:58

My shopping is £5.50 for the week. One whole chicken, feeds a family of 4 for 7 days. Job done!

OverItAndTired · 28/09/2020 23:26

£60-£150
One Aldi 'big shop' to fill the cupboards and fridge - try to meal plan
£40-£50 on 2/3 top up shops
£30 on Friday night treats such as pizza / nice ice cream/ wine etc

OverItAndTired · 28/09/2020 23:26

Family of 6 plus 5 animals

OpEd · 28/09/2020 23:30

£130 a week at Ocado. Two adults, two kids, two dogs and two cats.

Lurchermom · 28/09/2020 23:31

We use Gousto, so that's £34.99 for the week for two of us. Then I get a monthly high welfare meat box which is £77 and provides most of our red meat for the month. Probably £50-£60 on top each week including beer and the odd bottle of wine. We buy only free range eggs and poultry, try to buy organic and from farmers' markets where we can. Fruit and veg and bread is Tesco's/Sainsbury's/Waitrose but will buy independent when we get the chance.

PenguinsOnParade · 28/09/2020 23:53

We do a big shop of £100-120 approx every 4 weeks (mostly stocking up on meat to freeze for the month) then a top up shop in the other weeks which varies between £25 and £50 on average. We shop mainly in Morrisons. We sometimes have to get extra bread and milk from the local shop now and again too though. We tend to buy cleaning products etc from Home Bargains but sometimes add them to our supermarket shop depending on the weekly deals but we often bulk buy with those so it's only when we run out rather than a regular thing. 2 adults, 2 teens and 2 dogs here. Dog food is bought in bulk within our supermarket shop and lasts us around 3 months at a time.

Tulipsinmyvase · 29/09/2020 07:56

Right now we are around £150 but that’s one big shop of around £90 maybe 2 top ups.

We have disposable income that gets saved each month so we don’t need to specifically budget food. That said we don’t buy top brand items.

KitKatastrophe · 29/09/2020 08:22

About £70-90 per week for two adults and a 3 year old. We have a 6 month old but she doesnt have formula or disposable nappies so doesnt add much to the shop!

Since lockdown we dont really do top up shops so that's pretty much everything. We don't have much alcohol but do have other treats so we could cut down if required.

littlecontis · 08/10/2020 08:52

Was curious to see how much people were spending on their weekly shop as we are spending around £80/week on Ocado for just the two of us, which seemed a lot but we are both working from home atm.

latheritup · 08/10/2020 08:56

£60 - £100 for 2 adults and a baby. Sometimes I like to be cost cutting, most times I just spend willy nilly. Can't scrimp on food Grin

NerrSnerr · 08/10/2020 09:00

We spend about £120 for 4 of us (children age 5 and 3). That includes toilet roll, washing powder, dishwasher tabs, about £10 of alcohol etc.

MrsR87 · 08/10/2020 09:09

Always find it hard to compare on these thread as you don’t know exactly what other people are getting. There are two of us (not for much longer) and we are both working from home at present.

Our weekly shop, which is mostly food and the odd household product is usually between £85 and £100. It seems a lot compared to some but as has been said by others we are quite selective about the types of food we eat. So higher welfare meat, no processed foods/ready meals and the only frozen product I really buy is peas.

I also get some fruit and veg delivered most weeks from our local greengrocer. That’s usually around £12.

Once every six-eight weeks we do a Costco shop that comes in at around £100. This is for household stuff mostly.

My laundry detergent comes directly from the manufacturer and is around £60 every 6 months or so.

I’m sure we could cut down if we wanted to, but food is a big part of our life, we both love cooking and trying new things, so we are happy with the way things are.

mrsm43s · 08/10/2020 09:20

Family of 2 adults and 2 teens.

I spend approx £60 on a weekly Sainsbury's C&C.

I then do a top up shop at Morrisons where I spend approx £15, but I time this so that I go at reductions time, and tend to pick up lots of yellow stickered bargains to fill the freezer. (My Morrisons seem to reduce down to approx 5%, so I've had fillet steaks for 20p/topside joints for 60p/trays of chicken thighs for 10p etc)

I then also (when I have freezer space) do a top up meat shop from the butcher which is approx £50 every 2/3 months.

So probably about £80 a week in total. This includes everything including toiletries, household products, wine etc. Doesn't include the teenagers school lunches.

When the teens were home during lockdown, extra food plus lack of availability of some products (plus no yellow stickers) sent the weekly shop flying up to £130ish, but it's all gone back to normal now.

We're not fussy eaters and no food allergies, plus I'm a good cook and always meal plan. We're also mainly happy with own brands, and seasonal veg, all of which keeps the bill down. We eat quite well for the money I spend, and could definitely cut it down if I needed to.

MrsJBaptiste · 08/10/2020 09:27

Family of four - 2 adults, 16 and 14 year old boys.

£100 main Asda shop.
£25 milk & bread top up.
£50 wine, beer and weekend treats.

Not all this every week but we definitely average £160 per week.

It seems a lot but we need gluten free everything for DS2 and I WFH and DH takes a ton of food to work which ramps up the bills. We don't buy any lunches/coffees out although do get a takeaway once a week.

riotlady · 08/10/2020 09:27

About £70 for two adults and a toddler. It definitely got higher in lockdown but now toddler is back at nursery and DP back at work (where he usually gets a free meal) so it’s just me working from home now.

LetsBounce · 08/10/2020 09:28

£400 a week. I like the finer things. I wipe my arse with smoked salmon and I weaned the baby on caviar.

SurreyHillsGirl · 08/10/2020 09:35

£150 a week with a couple of 'mini' shops in between averaging £30 each time. 2 adults and two dogs. Mixture of Tesco, Waitrose and our local farm shop.

I'm veggie, and we buy our dog food independently of the weekly shop so I have no idea how we manage to spend so much. We buy a couple of bottles of wine c £10 each, DH has lamb chops and chicken and we buy organic veg for a daily nutribullet. Other than that, I really can't see how we do it. I have copied this thread and sent it to him, I am going to suggest we try Lidl!
