Hi. I'm 4 months pregnant and have been looking for a pram for a while now. I still have no idea which one to choose! I quote like the look of the I Candy Lime and I Candy Peach. I've also seen some nice ones in Mamas and Papas. Please can I have anyone's advice? I have no idea!

Thanks 😊

My only advice (mother of three here)
Is to get a pram where the car seat will attach to the base.
I didn’t have this for my first two and when I did for the third it was A GOD SEND.

Because your lovely little baby will fall asleep in the car and when you get to your destination and get the pram out you then have to take tiny sleeping coat baby out of the car seat and into the cold pram- where they will more than likely wake and cry.
To be able to just get the car seat out and clip it to the base without moving the baby was amazing.

And before anyone pops on to say- this is for short trips like going round a supermarket etc.
As if it was for a long trip in a pram it’s better for the baby to lie flat in a pram.

I've been out of the whole pram thing for a while but you need to consider your needs, do you have a car? if so will it fit in your boot? does is connect with a car seat? is it light enough to lift in? Will you go shopping a lot? Does it have a big enough basket for your needs? etc. etc.

Don't just go for what looks best (mistake with my first) also think long term, I ended up getting rid of my first travel system for a light buggy after a few months because I hated lifting it into the boot. My second was brilliant and I used it until DD was 3 because I put a lot more research in.

Lots of people will recommend ones that work for them but you need to find one that works for you.

Hercwasonaroll · 27/09/2020 21:47

This is a "depends on your life" question.

What sort of area? Do you use public transport? Do you have a car? Do you have storage space? Do you live upstairs?

Personally the car seat attachment was useless for me. Used twice with 2 kids. Mainly walked everywhere though so didn't go in the car loads. Wheras to the PP it was a godsend.

I LOVE my venicci pram. Small enough to fit in the boot of my fiesta with another pram on occasion. Big tyres and good suspension for different terrain. Easy to steer with one hand and light enough to lift in and out of the boot. The carrycot was big enough to accommodate my wee girl to five months (would've lasted longer but she got nosey). Pram section can forward and rear face and is easy to switch round. My DD turns 2 next week and I'm still using it rather than buying a smaller buggy. Can't recommend it enough!

Thanks so much for the advice! I have lots to think about now and will research based on what is best for my lifestyle 😊

I was on another thread this evening saying how the adaptors and buying a specific seat that fitted the pram was the biggest waste of money we ever spent! Have 2 DC and put the car seat on the pram once ever.

So you can't ever really know what will work for you probably.

Itllbeaninterestingchristmas · 28/09/2020 02:50

I didn’t have a car seat that clips on for my first but got one for my second and it’s fantastic for short trips. I’ve used it loads of times.
Get something that will take a large toddler if you do a lot of walking.
There is not one pram that will do all jobs. I’ve got two one travel system (mine also does off road on a different chassis) and a stroller.

I have the icandy peach and really like it. I go out and about most days with it, it's easily manoeuvred and baby loves it. He can also sleep in it overnight which saved us faffing with travel cots etc. We are city based and have a small house. But I agree with pp you need to work out what your priorities are. Have a shortlist and go try out at a shop if you can

chelle862 · 28/09/2020 07:15

I've got the icandy orange, it's lovely, car seat clips on, big basket, feels sturdy etc, but it is massive and heavy. It doesn't leave much room spare in my golf boot!

WankPuffins · 28/09/2020 08:38

Don’t get a massive great thing. You’ll spend a thousand pounds and end up jacking it in for a small buggy by the end of the first year.

Second Dd, I got a second hand bugaboo bee. It was awesome. Smallish and lightweight but not as flimsy as an umbrella fold (had a McLaren quest from birth also).

This baby 6 years later I went straight for a second hand bugaboo bee. It’s bloody excellent.

Amw2020 · 28/09/2020 17:32

Thanks for your feedback everyone. I was thinking of the I Candy Peach but know it's quite big. I do a lot of walking though so need it to be robust. I may have a look at the Bugaboo as well.

With DD1 I chose the one I liked the look of most - a big metal silver cross one that cost about £1500 (ridiculous amount when I was 20 and a penniless student) and literally could not go into a car, taxi or bus, just about got on trains with it. Nightmare. Looked great on photos, but other than that was just a bad mistake. Now I've got an icandy peach which has been fab.

MindyStClaire · 28/09/2020 17:55

There are days I love my Uppababy Vista more than its occupants. Wink We live in the suburbs and do a lot of walking, I like a sturdy buggy with a big basket. We used it daily for our 2 year old over lockdown, and now we're back to the carry cot with DC2. I found it much more user friendly than the equivalent iCandy in the shop.

However, I wouldn't want to be bringing it on public transport regularly as it's quite big.

Look around at the buggies you see people using where you live, and pay attention to which ones are still being used with toddlers.

OhToBeASeahorse · 28/09/2020 17:59

You have to really think about your lifestyle. We have the Uppababy Vista. Its massive. But - our boot is big enough to take it and other stuff, it copes with our local terrain and DS aged 2 still fits in it happily. I'll make it a double one when DC 2 is born in a few weeks.

bgnhlr · 15/12/2020 14:49

I'd suggest the Stokke Trailz (there's like only 2 left in stock in the UK) if you're a country gal, it's got magnificent air-filled tyres that can tackle any terrain (people in its way probably don't stand a chance either hahaha). For city gals I wrote a review on the Bugaboo Bee 6 here shorturl.at/coCK3

Good luck with your search chicka!

I have a bugaboo buffalo and I love it. I hate the stroller I bought for our holiday and never use it. The buffalo goes everywhere with us (Used with 2 kids now).

I have never put a carseat on a pram though do have a suitable carseat and the relevant adapters - I've just never felt the need. I think it's because if I go anywhere with both pram and car I'll be using the pram for longer than 2 hours (the max babies should be in carseats) and anywhere else I walk.

I don't use public transport much so a big pram isn't an issue for us - it fits easily in the car.

So things to consider:

  • transport, do you have a car? will you mainly use public transport? if car, then how big is the boot?
  • house, where will you store the pram when not in use (car is not appropriate, unless your car insurance specifically states it covers it).
  • local area where you'll use it. Are paths narrow? Are they uneven? Is it really busy? narrow or busy and you'll need a smaller pram, uneven or bouncy paths and something with suspension will be needed.

OK my eldest is now 15 so I'm probably a bit out of touch. We had a jane travel system which had a lie flat car seat. Fantastic, particularly in the early days. They would probably still do an updated model.

They do.

Lie flat car seats are great out of the car, so when on the buggy, but a more upright position is safer when travelling.

Liverbird77 · 15/12/2020 16:09

If you're thinking of having another close in age, I'd recommend the Uppababy Vista.

Amw2020 · 17/12/2020 12:24

Thanks everyone for the input! I have lots to think about!
