The mindless scroll on SM is a an anxiety inducing time drain

I have a bad habit of scrolling through Facebook (mainly groups I follow re my pets and exercise rather than friend's posts) and refreshing the "active" and "I'm on" pages on Mumsnet.

I find it makes me anxious, it takes up so much time (an hour can have passed in a flash) and it is addictive.

I sometimes do it while watching TV and I'm trying to make myself stop as no good comes from it.

Anyone else trying to cut out this habit?

I only have MN. I have been clean of F.B for 7 years now.

I look on the news, local news, jobs (even though I have one) and weather every day though & MN for a couple of hours Hmm

I quit MN for months at the end of last year, then lockdown hit. Now I'm as bad as before!

I can't delete any of them or limit them due to my job but I wish I could

Many of us seem to struggle with the same thing. I can understand how our children and teens get sucked in and the effect it has, given how it affects us.

It's not just social media for me, it's also internet shopping. Some days I just need to be on my phone...

I suppose recognising the problem is half the battle!

I watched The Social Dilemma last night - mind blowing. Really scary stuff....

I watched the Netflix doc & it confirmed what I already knew. I deleted Tracebook (as we call it) last week from my tablet & will need to do the same on my phone today. I find MN addictive as well as instagram. I might look at the app & limit times.

Yes my concentration is definately worse these days

Should ve said you tube is another black hole for me...

Ohwhatbliss · 27/09/2020 15:08

@ErrrrIDontThinkSo Yep, I deleted FB and Insta 2 weeks ago after watching The Social Dilemma too. Kept MN but not on here often. I'm reading more, sleeping better and less bored and anxious

I spend time on youtube too but it's doesn't feel as destructive as the time I spend on MN and Facebook.

I'm still doing it today!
