If dd1 loves Harry Potter, his dark materials, Anne of green gables, Nancy Drew, Jaqueline Wilson....what else will she like?

The Strangeworlds travel agency by L Lapinski. Only one book this far but I'm sure there will be more.

The land of roar and return to roar.

Wonderscape by Jennifer Bell.

Maybe a bit young for her, but very funny...the Roman Garstang series by Mark Lowery. The first is called The Jam Doughnut that ruined my life.

The Kane Chronicles also by Rick Riordan

mammmamia · 26/09/2020 22:51

Has she read the Robin Stevens murder most unladylike series?

Keewee27 · 26/09/2020 22:52

I second the Alanna series by Tamora Pierce. I loved them at about your DD's age.

My dd enjoyed When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit and is reading the subsequent books.

MadameBlobby · 26/09/2020 23:10

It’s hard when they are so advanced with their reading but a lot of the books aren’t age appropriate for them. My eldest is 14 now so a bit easier. He liked Percy Jackson. He felt hard done by when I wouldn’t let him read the hunger games at 10. Is there any non fiction she’d maybe like?

On the other side of the spectrum my autistic 11 year old is still on Captain Underpants :( he’s actually a good reader but he doesn’t like reading for pleasure

parietal · 26/09/2020 23:17

my 12 year old is also a serious reader but not ready for too many teen themes. I tend to go for 'old' books, so Sherlock Holmes / Tolkien / etc.

Also anything by Philip Pullman

nevernotstruggling · 26/09/2020 23:21

Thanks folks she's just started the Eva ibbotson books. Lots mentioned she's already read though.

I'd highly recommend Hatchet series by Gary Paulson mainly about a boy, but really gripping.

AdaColeman · 26/09/2020 23:23

Lian Hearn’s Across the Nightingale Floor trilogy, ( Tales of the Otori ) is an exciting read.

FelicityBeedle · 26/09/2020 23:24

The spooks apprentice series

OrlandointheWilderness · 26/09/2020 23:25

Disc world books by the amazing terry prachett. Neil gaimen

EugenesAxe · 26/09/2020 23:26

I love the first three in your list and here are my favourite other books / series from around that time:

The Weirdstone of Brisingamen (there are follow up books; they are good but I didn’t like them quite so much)

Redwall by Brian Jacques (loads of spin off stories but I confess I haven’t read them)

Chronicles of Narnia

I agree with Wonder, Star Outside my Window (they definitely are not too old for her), Percy Jackson & Dark is Rising series. Superfudge and follow on books by Judy Bloom are funny and good. My DS is 10 and a big reader; some of his favourite books include The Phantom Tollbooth, The Curious Incident..., Jelly (by Jo Cotterill), as well as the Percy Jackson series.

OrlandointheWilderness · 26/09/2020 23:28

Neil gaimen - good omens, coraline and the graveyard are all fab and beautifully written.
Lord of the rings (my 9 year old has just read them and loved them) and the hobbit.
Swallows and Amazons. Not my personal favourite but some children love them.
Narnia always good!

Verysurprised · 26/09/2020 23:28

Definitely the Wolf Brother series. Also Oksa Pollock series (although annoyingly I don't think the last couple of books have been translated!!). The Inkheart series is also brilliant!

StoryOfANewName · 26/09/2020 23:28

How about some older classics? Silas Marner, Mill on the Floss, Jane Eyre etc

Llamapolice · 26/09/2020 23:29

Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy
Cider With Rosie
Narnia? Tolkien?

StoryOfANewName · 26/09/2020 23:32

There is the new Philip Pullman Book of Dust series too. Has she come across that?

Alexandernevermind · 26/09/2020 23:33

Mine at 13 loved the Twilight series. My 12 yo is going through the Sherlock Holmes books. He has also enjoyed Poirot and loved McBeth. Diary of a Wimpy Kid still makes an appearance every now and again for a bit of silliness. The old James Herriot books are great if your child likes animals. Dan Brown would be good too.

Pickles89 · 26/09/2020 23:35

What are her interests generally?

tenlittlecygnets · 26/09/2020 23:38

Helen Moss series x2
Enid Blyton Island of adventure series
Michael morpurgo
The Cherub series
Angie Thomas - The hate u give

Her school should also be able to provide age appropriate reading lists - ask them!

Saisong · 26/09/2020 23:41

Wolf Brother series
Last Wild series (Piers Torday)
Little House series
Anne of Green Gables
Children of Greene Knowe etc
Dark is Rising etc
Box of Delights
Eva Ibbotson - any of them
Ruby Redfort
Young Bond

MakeLemonade · 26/09/2020 23:43

We ended up going for classics at this age until she matured a bit - Gulliver’s Travels, Huckleberry Finn, Princess Bride, Jane Eyre, LOTR, Sherlock Holmes etc.

nevernotstruggling · 26/09/2020 23:49

Narnia she's burned through.

nevernotstruggling · 26/09/2020 23:50

@MakeLemonade she would like princess bride that's a good shout.

I'm not asking school they are useless except she did a book review project there which she got one book out of which she's finished already.
