Heating question I should really know the answer to

Incoming boring adult question I should know the answer to but don’t Blush

I’ve just turned the temperature on the boiler down as my toddler is drawn to the radiator pipes that run along our living room floor and I don’t want him to get scalded. The thermostat on the wall however is still set to the same temperature.

Will changing the temperature on the boiler make any difference to the overall pipe and radiator temperature and efficiency of the overall system?

Turn the thermostat down imo, turning the boiler down will make the hot water colder, the thermostat regulates the heat in the room so radiator and pipes will be cooler

The boiler temperature is for your hot water (and needs to be high enough to kill the kind of bugs that will otherwise kill you).

Thermostat is for radiator temperatures.

The water in your radiators/heating system is not the same water that comes out when you turn the hot tap on...

My boiler has dual temperature for hot water and radiators. I have the radiators slightly lower than the water temperature.

The thermostat on the wall dictates when the heating turns on not it's temperature.

My boiler has separate temp controls for heating and water, I don't think turning the thermostat down will make the radiators run cooler, it just switches off the heating when the room temperature hits what you have set, so if you turn your thermostat down to 18 the radiators will be the same heat, they'll just switch off sooner.

My boiler had separate temperature gauges for radiators or boiler. I'm a child minder so I have the radiators not hot enough to burn. In terms of the room thermostat or trv it just takes longer for the room to reach the required temperature.

Sorry yes I should’ve said, I have an option for both water and radiators on my boiler. The radiator option is set to 50 degrees C and the hot water one is set to 55 degrees C.

The boiler thermostat controls the temperature of the water inside the pipes and radiators. Turning it down will reduce the risk of a burn from the radiators. It will also generally make the central heating more efficient but less powerful.

There will usually be two, one for the hot water and one for the heating. Hot water temperatures below 60 C create a risk of Legionnaire's disease, and on some boilers the heating has to be at least as hot as the hot water.

Ok now I’m having a bit of a freak out about legionaries. The waters been set to 55 degrees for about a week, we’ve been showering and bathing in it Shock is this ok? What do I do now? I’ve turned it back up but do I need to flush the system or anything??
