Sewing Machine recommendations

I want a sewing machine, nothing very expensive. It is just for repairs and changing clothes, not make curtains or anything. I have no clue what is good. Any help appreciated, thanks.

Aldi has a digital sewing machine for £150 with very good reviews.
I have a brother fs40 which I absolutely love £230 in Argos.
My dd had a basic hobbycraft machine, it broke very easily so would avoid them.
She now has a basic Juki that I used for about 4 years before upgrading to a digital one that still works perfectly.

I recently bought a Brother LX17, I paid around £120 for it. I hadn’t used a sewing machine since sewing lessons at school in 1983 but I’ve found it easy to use and it has good reviews.

I recently bought this one - is pretty simple and the instruction manual is very clear £130 and comes in lots of pretty colours...

I always say that a good solid old vintage sewing machine like a Bernina 730 record or a new home, made out of all metal with no plastic parts to break, will go on forever and sew through anything. You can get them cheaply off eBay or wherever. For modern machines I always hear that janome is a very good make although I've always got by really well with my vintage ones.

Another vote for this. Made by janome I think as well.

If you've got an independent sewing machine shop nearby, they often have reconditioned models for sale or would help you to choose the machine that's right for your needs.

Janome or Frister rossman are metal machines and go on forever...

I have heard good things about tte John Lewis ones and you prob get a great guarantee too

I’ve got a Janome (my aunt worked there for many years). Bottom of the range type model and it’s fab.

Thank you all so much.
I will spend the weekend googling and comparing all your suggestions.

I do a lot of sewing (Including curtains) and manage fine with a brother LS14 which is usually around £100 and very easy to use.

I wouldn't bother buying anything more expensive at this point, if you catch the sewing bug you will need the money in the future for fabric, threads, needles, interfacing, zips, self covering buttons, patterns, proper fabric scissors, rotary cutting stuff, fabric clips, glass head pins , a pattern master, a dress form, more patterns, more fabric and audiobooks to listen to while you sew.

John Lewis own are good.

Made by Janome.

I have the £140ish one. It's fine for most jobs.
