Has anyone got experience of MiSight contact lenses?

My 13 year old DD wears glasses to correct shortsightedness (myopia). She has asked about contact lenses, and I’ve heard about lenses that slow the progression of myopia. I would be quite keen for this – her myopia is progressing quite fast. My own eyesight has never stopped getting worse and I know I am at risk of various sight complications as I get older.
I can see some studies showing they are quite effective, but no actual reviews, and I have no idea how much it would cost.
Does anyone have any experience they can share? I think the most well known is MiSight. Thank you!

My 13 yr old has been recommended these by the optician. But the only facts they could give me really was a leaflet. The optician hadn't had a single customer himself. So it was a pretty weak recommendation. I would also be curious to hear some real life stories.

I am horribly short sighted so if I could help ds not end up so badly I would want to give it a go.

My DD has just been advised to consider these too. We also have only been given a leaflet. RainyAfternoon and Rae36 did either of you find out any more about them?

I am also considering these for my dd for the same reasons and would like to know more.

I'm an optometrist and have fitted a fair few.

The research behind them is fairly good;

journals.lww.com/optvissci/fulltext/2019/08000/a_3_year_randomized_clinical_trial_of_misight.3.aspx, after 36 months, on average children were 0.75DS less short-sighted than the children that didn't wear them.

The drop outs that I've had have been due to the cost or another child found them blurry at the trial.

Thanks @underneaththeash it’s good to hear you have professional experience of these and rate them. Is there anything about my optician (local independent) that I should check out - like the number of previous child patients he’s had using MiSight, or any specialist training he should have had, or anything??

Not for MiSight, they’re very straightforward to fit.
You need somewhere convenient to attend for appointments - that’s the main thing.

Is it worth at 16 my DD wearing them til 18 dramatic deterioration in prescription to -0.4, so would like to explore to improve or slow down myopia

aramox1 · 05/02/2022 19:08

bumping this in case anyone else has experience or expertise? my 16 yo (sight deteriorating from -1 to -2, far too much screen time) has been recommended them but they're a big jump cost wise from the ones he wears at the moment.

Has anyone actually had experience of these lenses? Do they actually slow down the progression of myopia? DD has been recommended these contact lenses.

MillyMollyMardy · 09/03/2024 17:53

@Anoth my ds has had them for about 18 months and no prescription change in that time and his optometrist would have expected a deterioration in that time. He struggled with inserting them and had several visits to practice with our very patient optometrist. Now he gets on really well with them.
My dd has Miyosmart glasses instead which have also resulted in no prescription change in 2 years. She didn't fancy contact lenses. The optometrist puts their good results down to good compliance ie/ using their glasses and lenses.

Stopsnowing · 09/03/2024 22:39

My dc has had them for about 2 years and no deterioration

Anoth · 28/03/2024 19:01

@Stopsnowing can I ask if your child experienced a period of getting used to them? My daughter started them today and says screens and phone words look fuzzy and a bit double!! Wonder if this improves over time as they have literally only been in for around 4hrs!!

Stopsnowing · 28/03/2024 20:30

Tbh o can’t remember!

My son, age 13 is using Menicom Bloom hard lenses.

These are worn at night. He's only been using them 9 months, but there's been no deterioration in his eyesight in that time and given previous chanes in prescription, further deterioration would have been expected.

There was a short settling in period before he achieved full vision during the day but now he can see perfectly. These have been amazing for him, as he loves sports and was always breaking glasses.

We are paying £55 a month all in.
