Going tomorrow to stock up on a few bits (we are a family of 6, eat a LOT)
What are your best buys?

We love their big pots of houmous, their meatballs, sliced ham, steak, the chicken thigh fillets are great value and the mini fillets cook nicely too.

We buy the frozen teppenyaki chicken and rice pouches. They are great for a warm lunch (4.5 minutes in the microwave) and they have lots of chicken in. The DC (and us) love them and they work out under £1 each.

They do packs of mini snacking cucumbers which go nicely in lunchboxes and their cherries are always good. The salads are delicious.

We've had their lasagne, carbonara pasta and their cottage pies and they were all good. The kids love their pizzas. I always fancy trying their ready to eat warm ribs but have yet to cave in!

The cafe Asia duck spring rolls are so delicious so I always buy those and the panko shrimp! Oh and their lemon sole goujons with lemon and pepper coating are absolutely lovely - fat pieces of fish. Also had their breaded chicken and agree very nice.

Man I love Costco Grin

This is random but I'm eating a lemon polaretti ice pole/ pop thing that was a random buy last weekend and it's delicious! Massive box for around £5 I think they were. I actually might need to go get another one Blush ( yes they are meant to be for the kids!)

I'm going tomorrow, specifically to get crispy duck from the fridge section!

Black bin bags are very strong and last for ages.
Swedish meatballs from the fridge section.
The 4 packs of diced pancetta/chorizo.
Their packs of tortelloni make an easy dinner.

FatBottomedGurl · 21/09/2020 18:33

I only ever go to Costco for delicious non essentials 😂

Costco cake is basically my favourite thing, ever.
Their sushi platters are delicious and amazing value for money. Several of their sushi platters is more than half the price of a sushi takeaway and equal quality.

Fresh salmon
Bradon rost hot smoked salmon
Bags of chocolate chips for baking
Frozen prawns
Massive tubs of Marmite
Bottles of vanilla extract
Loch fyne smoked salmon
Bigs chunks of parmesan
Redex, or equivalent cylinder cleaner for cars
Defroster aerosol
Tyres
Wrapping paper - one year it was reversible paper, another it had printed dotted lines on the reverse in squares - good for cutting in straight lines
Kirkland own brand dry cat food - our vet nurse cat sitter thought it was Iams
Books much cheaper
Glasses from the optical section
Tyres - cheaper than our local garage could get them
Cut flowers, they used to do huge bunches of cut lilies and I love the scent

When DD was little they had Oshkosh dugarees for ridiculously cheap prices
Kitchen Aids were £160 (obviously going back a bit)
Big tubs of vanilla yoghurt - can't remember the brand

However, some things are dearer - Lurpak 500g was cheaper at Tesco.
Avoid the sole turbans stuffed with crab mousse - the crab mousse was sweetened.

Bakeachocolatecaketoday · 21/09/2020 18:55

Key : DO NOT BUY THINGS YOU DON'T NORMALLY USE!!

But we buy

Chiabattas (bake yourself)
Sushi
Sirloin steak
Cod Loin
Parma ham
brie
Fruit/veg and salad - dependant on what I need, big packs so buy little.
Fizzy water
toilet roll
Kitechen roll
Ariel tablets
Black bags
Viakal
Toilet cleaner
Lager
wine
gin
Muller corners
long life milk
tray eggs
J2O's
Baked beans
yorkshire tea
coffee
hot chocolate
oil
soy sauce
ketchup
Marmelade
Honey
stamps
Nandos vouchers (£36 for a £40 voucher)

Then clear a space in the garage to store it all while you go through it!

Love this thread, as even though I’m a seasoned Costco shopper, people are listing things I wouldn’t have thought of.

Catering size Apple pies, carrot cake, Victoria sponges etc.

Muffins - if you can’t eat twelve, they freeze really well (the chocolate ones are lovely defrosted and heated up slightly).

Shaving razors
Carex antibacterial hand wash
Simple face cleansing wipes
Toothpaste

Mumdiva99 · 22/09/2020 09:44

@Susannahmoody you have chips at Costco? Are you in the UK? We only have pizza, jackets, hotdogs etc No chips....

Mmmmm Costco lunch. You're making me hungry.

ChicCroissant · 22/09/2020 09:59

We've been Costco members for years, the bin liners are the item I see mentioned the most but they are fab! Big roll of black bin liners! The white, recycled ones are good for the kitchen bin as well.

You do need space, we put some items such as toilet and kitchen roll in the loft and bring a pack down as needed. They did sell out of toilet roll at the start of the pandemic which we'd never seen before!

Yes to freezing the muffins - they are huge, half a muffin is more than adequate but a whole one is nice, their croissants are lovely too.

Ciabatta bread in bulk that you bake (DD's favourite for school lunch when her brace is off!), pack of 12 plan Naan bread,.

Big pack of craisins (dried cranberries), wine (I like the Kirkland brand of prosecco), they do alcoholic advent calendars - saw a gin one in there last weekend and DH has had a beer one from there.

Batteries, especially when on offer can be quite cheap. Brita water filters.

Chicken portions (chicken breasts and thighs) in the chiller cabinets, pork - meat is quite nice there.

Gallon refill container of Carex handwash, we go through a lot of handwash.

Also a big yes to the wrapping paper with the grid on the back, does help terrible wrappers like me.

The decorations (Christmas/Halloween) and furniture is lovely but the furniture is quite large-scale - looks deceptively small in the warehouse and larger when you get it home!

Missteebeee · 22/09/2020 10:46

Their sushi is very good value

Washing powder and conditioner
Loo roll
Bin liners

The birthday cake is cheap and tasty but huge

BrowncoatWaffles · 22/09/2020 12:00

I've never thought of freezing the muffins. I'm always so tempted by them!

Also very excited by the gin advent calendar!

DaisyDreaming · 22/09/2020 15:15

Tin foil and cling film, so much better and cuts so well!

Most of my recommendations wouldn’t be healthy! The meat and fish is really good and freezes well. The cookies in the bakery are amazing and they sell a box mix to make brownies, I’m not normally a packet mix fab but they are the best brownies ever!

DaisyDreaming · 22/09/2020 15:17

Lots of things are good value but it’s worth price checking as not everything is cheaper. We find the meat to be around supermarket prices but better quality

LeaveMyDamnJam · 22/09/2020 15:21

My DH and DS love the wagyu burgers.

BunnyLovesBananas · 22/09/2020 15:38

Cake
Cookies
Prawn crackers
Toilet roll
Fabric softener
Berocca
Laundry detergent

JingsMahBucket · 22/09/2020 22:29

Placemarking because I love a Costco thread. :) My friend has a membership but we still haven’t been able to coordinate a time for me to tag along with her. I think I may try doing a trial visit on my own soon.
