What happens if you make an application online? Do the police come to the house?

I’m safe. Just some details of a story don’t add up and I want to check it’s nothing more serious.

The bar for getting details through Clare's law is really high.

They won't check a story for you, and they won't disclose anything unless you, or someone you're responsible for is in danger.

They won't come to the house, you would be called in to the station, as they wouldn't want to put you in danger.

Theres no harm in making an application, but I wouldn't hold out hope of getting information.

I would question why you're involved with someone (in whatever capacity) who you don't trust, to the degree you feel that you need police involement.

Remember that other concerned people who aren’t involved by choice can also make a request through Clare’s Law. E.g. concerned grandparents, a none resident parent etc.

Thank you for the reply.

I have been reading about what happens when you apply and it says they arrange for
an officer to come to your home to check details. Would that only be if something had come up in their records?

Ex DH is on the list. If something doesn’t add up, walk away.

User567567432 · 21/09/2020 13:32

@Gilead did you ask for a disclosure? What happened after you’d submitted the application?

I don’t want to write many details but don’t want police coming to the house. I’ve been trying to find information, some say a specialised officer is sent to make a home visit to check details, some say they’ve been called into the station, some say they’ve just had an email to say no further action is needed. If I phoned up to ask would they tell
Me the process without pressing for further details?

He’s on it because of what he did to me.

Sorry to hear that. Thank you for the reply.

Have you tried calling 101 for advice? It's a non-emergency number (so its not like you are stopping others getting urgent help) and should be able to answer your questions directly.

MorningNinja · 21/09/2020 15:48

In my force there are a team that deal with the disclosures.

Complete the form and put how you'd like to be contacted and the officer will go along with that. This is all about safeguarding you and that will be paramount.

Good luck OP
