Is my son's thumb healing ok (WARNING GROSS PICTURE ATTACHED)

My son was using a power circular saw and it went through his skin and bone, I had to change the dressing today and it doesn't look right, but I'm not a nurse, he did it last Tuesday and he isn't back at the hospital until Friday.

Ouch ! I'm not an expert at all but I'd say that looks ok. Not red so not infected.

It looks like towards the back it's getting too wet. See if you can get an appointment for a wound dressing at your gp (the appointment will be with a nurse or hca probably)

Why don’t you phone your gp in the morning and ask to send a photo in, ours has a secure text system for this, and then they can advise you and refer him back to the hospital if necessary.
I think it looks ok but I’m not expert and can understand your concern

Hi nurse here

The thumb should ideally be in some sort of splint because the more he bends the thumb, it has the possibility of stretching the wound and popping the sutures out.
The skin looks wet/white because it's been covered with the bandage, that should settle, although I question why an extra stitch wasn't put in. If you can get your hands on some steri strips from the chemist and apply them just to reinforce the closure it would be ideal.
Otherwise it actually looks not too bad, no redness/pus
Hopefully all ok on Friday and the sutures can be removed.

Looks ok, not worryingly inflamed or visible puss. Poor him, Christ that must have been painful!

My friend healed his , cut to bone, with neodymium gold plated magnets, north side down
About £10 for 10 on magnets4all
He didn’t even go to hospital.

I have some steri strips, I will get him to pop here after work tomorrow, he is a bugger to try and get him to the doctor's as everything will always be ok in his eyes. Even his fiancée can't get him to go.

He is in quite a bit of pain, but he won't let on until you tell him you can see it in his face. Bless him tho as he passed out 3 times when he did it and he used to work in a&e and most of the staff knew him.

At the back it doesn't look right - too moist.
I think he needs to see someone before Friday, maybe for some antibiotics or at least a more appropriate dressing.

There's no way a magnet can re-attach tendons and ligaments. Any wound through to the bone needs surgery as it's a massive infection source.

I had to remove stitches from a man who SAT on a circular saw. And what colour of stitch did the surgeon use, black of course.

This man was very , very hairy. He was laying face down. I had a spot lamp on him. A colleague had to hold his bum cheeks apart while I searched for 14 black stitches !!

Good grief what irresponsible and dangerous advice!
