I am looking to buy a food processor and would like to hear the pros and cons of your machines. Family of five. I like the look of the cuisinart expert pro.
Large feed tube, smallish base, not too heavy to lift out of cupboard, variable slicing disc and option of smaller bowl.

What do you have and why

This thread is quite old now, so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for the latest advice and guidance, we’ve recently updated our best food processor page with the models MNers love, including info on the pros and cons of each one. We hope this helps.

I have a kitchen aid one. It’s heavy to lift but really stable. I’ve had it 8 years and it’s still going strong despite heavy use!

I also have a Kitchen Aid one and it’s really good. Huge feed chute, great additional slicing blades. Worth every penny.

I've got an ancient Magimix, does all that and and still going strong. Just had a look at the website and the new ones are even better!

I have a magimix 3200 XL - three different bowls, and a large feeding tube. Strong and sturdy machine that works well.

I have a Kenwood food processor. I've had it 30 years. It's still working perfectly.

I've no idea about newer ones, but for longevity, it'll be hard to beat.

I have a kenwood multipro excel.

Pros, it’s really well made, I’m very clumsy and it’s withstood being dropped without breaking.

The base is (fairly) compact and has a built in digital scale. I leave it out on the worksurface.
The feed chute is in two sizes, so you can add large items in like whole onions etc whilst it’s in use. Altho the larger chute needs to be out before you start it to use it.

It’s got a lot of different super sharp blades, I use it to grate ginger/carrots/potatoes and it does it really well and very fast.

It’s got a smaller bowl you can insert with a shorter blade for smaller portions.

Comes with whisk and dough hook and mixer blades too.

The round and short blades come in their own storage box.

I love that it flashes when you open it whilst the power is on to warn you.

I’ve tried other makes but I’ve found kenwood is very reliable and well made.

I’d go for kenwood everytime, if you don’t have space go for a model with fewer attachments.

I really like mine it’s very slick and compact and the bowl holds two litres.

It’s also fairly quiet when in use, I’ve had another processor which was so noisy whilst in use I couldn’t have a conversation when it was on.

Cons; the blade storage takes up quite a bit of space. But I like it and it keeps everything together.

I promise I don’t work for kenwood.

I have a ninja food processor which come with two blending jugs too, it excellent although very loud. I have a smaller ninja chopper for everyday use.

frazzledasarock · 21/09/2020 04:02

I’ve had a ninja before but managed to break the jug within a week. I found it to be really brittle plastic and it didn’t withstand being dropped onto a laminate floor.

Hamsterfan · 21/09/2020 07:56

Thanks for suggestions so far, some of these models are much heavier than the cuisicart. Are the built in scales useful

I use this kenwood food processor everyday for my fam of 4. I use the liquidiser for all my smoothies, and for blizing my babys food. I love grating cheese with the main jug, no more broken nails on the old fashioned grater. Its not too loud and sticks to the counter so doesnt fall over. The main jug has a great safety feature where the jug and lid have to be clicked into place before you can use. Its probably halved my food preping time.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 21/09/2020 08:06

I have a kenwood chef titanium. It's heavy, but does everything well. The blender is a doddle to clean as it can be taken apart easily. In fact I chose this model as all the removeable bits are dishwasher safe except for the actual blade bit of the blender, which comes apart from the base to it's easy to clean by running it under the tap.
It's taken all the punishment I could throw at it for the last eight years and still looks like new.

Bridecilla · 21/09/2020 09:22

I bought this thinking I'd use it loads and I never do! Need to clue myself up on what to use it for as it makes an expensive ornament Blush
