Do you chat with your manager outside of work hours?

I was speaking to a friend about the kind of relationship that I have with my manager and she thinks that it's weird. I'm not so sure. It's primarily because he'll message me most days outside of work hours about any old thing. What he's having for dinner or comments/pictures relating to the weather for example.

The messages have never been inappropriate in any way. Is it odd to regularly chat with your manager about non-work things in the evenings/weekends?

@icode

I did. 24 years working together. She died in June and I miss her terribly.
I'm sorry to hear about your loss icode Flowers

As much as I'd like to hope so, I doubt it, I'm really nothing special at all

Not with my current one. We have a group chat which is friendly but not that chatty.

I became really good friends with my previous manager though so yes, we texted and socialised outside work and still do even though we don't work together any more.

Yes, she's lovely and we both have the same sense of humour.

No. It is best not being too matey with your manager.

No I don't, he is a work colleague and nothing more.

Before I moved into my current role, I managed a large team and would have shutdown any attempt by a team member to talk to me outside of work hours, unless it was related to work.

I used to. But then the power went to her head and she turned into a knob. I avoid talking to her in work now.
