Helping my poor friend bury her beloved kitten that was killed this morning and cut my leg on the spade, I barely felt it at the time but looks quite deep, not sure if I need to see Dr/nurse for stitches or perhaps dressed?

I would think you'd need a tetanus at least ... (not medically qualified)

Ginfordinner · 18/09/2020 13:41

I would be worried about tetanus if you did this with a dirty spade.

Definitely tetanus

TokyoSushi · 18/09/2020 13:42

Yes I'd agree that needs looking at.

BasedInDublin · 18/09/2020 13:42

Yes for sure!! Tetanus

TheGriffle · 18/09/2020 13:46

I’d say a walk in centre if you have one or A&E for tetanus and possibly steri strips or glue, looks quite deep.

SkySmiler · 18/09/2020 13:54

Thanks all, I've cleaned it up but it's still dripping and is starting to sting now....

It's hard to tell from a picture but it does look as if it needs closing somehow. Whether it is deep enough to need stitches rather than steri strips I can't tell from the photo. Stitches usually need to be done within 12 hours and certainly within 24. The advantage of closing is reduced scarring and a reduced chance of infection.

If you were brought up in a first world country and have been immunised throughout childhood then chances are you have immunity to tetanus through the standard immunisation programme. This certainly applies to the vast majority brought up in the UK

It certainly would be a reasonable risk of infection so whatever you decide to do, please do keep an eye on it for signs of infection
