Action movie for 5 year old

Any recommendations? DD and I watched The Sleepover a few weeks ago and she really enjoyed it. We do a cinema night every Saturday at home so I’m looking for an action film again this week.

I think she might find Bumblebee a bit boring. Spy Kids is not on any streaming service but that’s the kind of film I’m looking for.

Other films we have watched that have some kind of action:
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Jumanji
Jurassic Park
Harry Potters
The Goonies
Ghostbusters
Goosebumps

We’ve been doing it for a couple of years so there are probably ones I’ve missed off but we also have done a few classic movies, loads of animated films, lots of comedies too.

All suggestions welcome!

Great suggestions. We’ve done most Disney animations, a lot of DreamWorks and universal too.

Night at the museum might be good for her. I think I could only find the sequel recently but will check on just watch.

We don’t mind the odd swear but I’m not sure how much she will get the gaming references of the new jumunji films.

Before anyone kicks off about swearing please note that ET is a U and has “shit” and “penis breath” in it. Not that the latter is a swear but it’s not exactly clean.

Power rangers
Teenage mutant ninja turtles

Mouse hunt
Men in black
George of the jungle

Monkey trouble
Mrs doubtfire
Labyrinth

Yes, already done Big Hero 6. Great film. The last 10 or so years Disney have added a lot of depth to their films:

The Kid Who Would Be King

Baby's Day Out

SavoyCabbage · 18/09/2020 15:41

Bolt. It's the ultimate action film.

InvisibleToEveryone · 18/09/2020 15:43

Hocus Pocus, is a Halloween must.

National treasure, nicholas cage, not sure of age on that?

MiddleClassProblem · 18/09/2020 15:59

Thanks for those who said The Kid Who Would Be King. That looks really good plus Joe Cornish so hopefully funny too.

She loves Hocus Pocus. She’s done most of the major Halloween/kids horror films and quite a few obscure ones too. I hate Halloween 😂

I second Baby's Day Out Grin

MrsVeryTired · 18/09/2020 20:11

I would be careful of Spiderman, the recent ones with Tom Holland are fab and good fun, the first two quite scary.

MiddleClassProblem · 18/09/2020 20:20

We’ve not done Marvel other than through Lego movies yet. She knows most of the characters but I think the films are a bit too much chat for her anytime soon. I think you forget how much the action lulls watching it as an adult as the dialogue is engaging. I think Captain Marvel would be something she would like in a couple of years. She likes supergirl but I think that’s from the DC cartoon rather than anywhere else. She likes strong women and I can’t wait for her to be old enough for The Hunger Games. She has a black widow doll and seen YouTube clips from the films but I don’t think she would be able to sit through them for a while.

No one mentioned Men in Black yet? We purchased it from Amazon prime for 4 quid a while back.

MiddleClassProblem · 18/09/2020 20:44

@YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake mentioned it. We’ve done the first one which she enjoyed. She likes Will Smith as he’s been in so many things she’s seen like Spies in Disguise, Shark Tale and Aladdin. She also likes to dance around to Boom! Shake the Room and the MIB song. I should progress onto the second movie...

I think we’ll go with The Boy Who Would Be King tomorrow but I’m definitely banking some of these for future weeks.

Thank you all so much, these are great!

Has she watched the film of 'The Wild Thornberries', my DC still love that and they are much older than your DD.

Gave you watched much Studio Ghibli with her? Kiki's Delivery Service has a nail biting ending and Spirited Away is creepy. Generally they are less high octane than western films but it's good to mix things up.

Nim's Island completely freaked my kids out the first time they watched it. Great fun though and Gerald Butler is a great action hero.

MiddleClassProblem · 18/09/2020 20:57

Not seen any of them. She was really intrigued buy the Spirited Away trailer on Netflix but didn’t want to watch the film (just that clip on repeat) and I’m not sure why. I used to watch the wild Thornberrys getting ready for work. Loved that Flea was in it. Hadn’t thought about them for years!

Kids loved The Spy Next Door recently, and Johnny English

AntiSocialDistancer · 18/09/2020 21:03

flushed away is an animated spy film too

Mumtumwobble · 18/09/2020 21:03

Dora the explorer, spy’s in disguise and Artemis Foul are all good.

ButteryPuffin · 18/09/2020 21:04

All the Jackie Chan films.

MiddleClassProblem · 18/09/2020 21:23

I do love a Jackie Chan. I’m not sure she’s ready for Rumble in the Bronx yet 😂 but Spy Next Door might good. Dora the Explorer was surprisingly good. She won’t watched Flushed Away but I think that’s because she wasn’t that fond of Ratatouille and I love it so ask to watch it. I think she is now rodentist due to my pushing. I’ll get her back... maybe with Fival...

Ok. What about the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie? I honestly don't remember much of it, just remember seeing it in the cinema and LOVING it. They're a lot friendlier looking than the remake in the 2000s

Stompythedinosaur · 18/09/2020 21:40

Shark boy and lava girl is good, as is Rise of the Guardians.

Would Labyrinth be too fantasy?

MiddleClassProblem · 18/09/2020 21:47

I think so but I think she may change her mind at some point about fantasy type films. We tried A Wrinkle In Time and whilst she did watch it all, I think she was a bit meh about it other than the outfits. She loves Maleficent though, which feels a bit fantasy like.
