Silicon in baby's room to keep out cockroaches

Hi - I plan on using silicon to put between the crack of the floorboard and base of the wall in my baby's room to try and keep out cockroaches. Is this safe?

Where do you live, are you in the UK? You’d be better off addressing the cockroaches, nothing can stop them getting in if they’re there and want to.

Silicon or builders caulk is used for exactly that.. sealing gaps in frames, skirting, joints etc...
however it won’t keep cockroaches out.. you need to get pest control in. Do you actually have roaches? Or is this a worry?

Do you have a cockroach problem or is out just a precaution?

I live in the Philippine and am renting an decent sized old house so there is no way to get rid of the cockroach problem. I guess I am concerned re toxic fumes for the baby and any other health concerns.

I’m not sure this is the best place to be asking for advice on cockroaches in the Philippines!! I lived in a hot country for several years and we had them lots. We used to smoke bomb the apartment with industrial size insecticide and go away for a couple of days, but you’re right you don’t want that with a baby as it involves a lot of cleaning residue afterwards.

You do have my sympathy though, they’re horrible. I wouldn’t want them near my baby either.

The silicon sealant I've used (in bathrooms) takes about 24 hours to cure and harden. During that time it releases a gas which you should try not to breathe. So you would need to keep the baby away and have the windows open and good ventilation while you apply the sealant. Then close the door and keep the baby out of the room for at least 24 hours until you have ventilated the room again to get rid of the gas. It smells acidic.

Ultimately you can't seal the door, though, so I don't know whether this would work to keep cockroaches out anyway. Can you get sticky traps?
