My uncle- he likes chess, legal stuff, piano music!

He is relatively fit but 80 so nothing heart racing

Ideally before Christmas and preferably happening in Covid times

Does he like wine? South London Wine School courses might be interesting.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 17/09/2020 12:05

London Eye open?

Gatelodge · 17/09/2020 12:06

South Bank concert in the Royal Festival Hall or Purcell Rooms, if happening?

AriettyHomily · 17/09/2020 12:09

As in he wants to go over old ground or just an experience for the day?

IWM, up to the Eye, lunch at the RFH or OXO.

I have no idea how much of that is open though.

My nan used to love a visit down memory lane including a walk up the Cut, Pie & Mash etc.

Horniman not worth the travel IMO!

@Butterer

And I know it's not listed in his relevant interests, but if you can get to the Horniman in SE London, do. Everyone needs to see the badly stuffed walrus at least once in their lifetime.

My now eight year old used to be fascinated by that, but if it was of interest to a toddler, maybe not to an eighty year old...?

Is there going to be anything good on at the Dulwich Picture Gallery?

I had a lunch cruise on the Thames one Mother's Day, it was fantastic.

JoJoSM2 · 17/09/2020 13:18

Was he ever into pop culture? Maybe listened to Elvis or Cliff Richard? Cryer Arts in Carshalton has some tribute concerts scheduled before Christmas + there are nice pubs (esp the Sun and the Greyhound) nearby that do lovely food (my 80yo MIL enjoys those).

KatyMac · 17/09/2020 13:32

Oh wow! some fabulous options thank you all

My aunty is getting him the river cruise already (assuming it's Covid happening)

He is very rule bound and will only do things that are actually the law rather than realistically 'safe' if you know what I mean - his 80th party has been smashed completely

Birds of prey handling experience. Fil did one once, but at 70 not 80

KatyMac · 17/09/2020 13:45

Royal courts of justice is perfect for him - just emailed to check they are open/covid arrangements

@Butterer

I discovered it in my thirties Blush

I got my parents a combined river cruise and entrance to the viewing platform at the shard. They enjoyed that.

SapatSea · 17/09/2020 14:20

My dad enjoyed the hop on and off London Bus Tours that leave from outside Victoria station.

BrigitsBigKnickers · 17/09/2020 15:00

I bought a flight simulator experience for my dad for his 80th- he absolutely loved it.

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 17/09/2020 15:03

The Clink prison museum?

KatyMac · 18/09/2020 18:56

The royal court is closed

I might get away with the Clink for Christmas if I'd bought the RCJ for his birthday but I think he might be a bit offended (about me sending his to jail)
