20 min walk to school

Is it too long? It's a walk through the common. It feels nice now but probably will be a pain in winter. I'm wondering whether to invest in a cargo bike

We have another school close to us about 5 minute walk away but I wasn't convinced when we looked round pre Covid.

I use to counting number games & spelling on route - I didn't realize my not quite 3 year old was paying so much attention until I was doing mental adding of how many boys & girls in class for my 7 year old & he answered... (ie 11 girls & 14 boys & a little voice piped up 25!) point is the journey can be a active teaching game - just allow yourself a bit more time & be willing to stop & look at everything. & invest in big bag for bringing back school stuff! (when covid is over)
? why do teachers always send home large art constructions on windy days :)

Our school is a mile away. 6 yr old ds manages fine and prefers to walk as we walk with friends. However it's miserable in the rain or when it's icey, and I use the car when the weather is bad. Friends little girl (3) can manage it but she usually gets in her pushchair at some point.

If I didn't have the option to drive, I can imagine it would get old very quickly especially in winter.

I walked with DS1 just over a mile to school every day for the first half term and then stopped and started driving part way as he was so exhausted by the time we got home it was miserable for everyone. He was summer born though and fine by later on in the year.

You do need a plan for heavy rain. You can dress for the weather but schools do not have space to store waterproofs or a change of shoes or put them out to dry and you don't want your child at school all day in wet clothes. If your school still has a changing room/cloakroom (which is pretty much unheard of now) you would be OK.
