I have a question for the wise MNers please. In the following scenario who has right of way? Is it A who is going straight ahead or B who is turning right?

I would call it a crossroads but it is ever so slightly off Centre if that makes a difference.

Many thanks!

A has right of way.

B should notice that A isn't indicating, therefore A's direction of travel will be straight ahead.

B needs to wait for Lanchester Road to be clear before turning right into it.

pimble · 16/09/2020 13:15

I don't think anyone has priority, surely the priority would be given to who ever enters the major road first.

I was taught never to rely on indicators

myworkingtitle · 16/09/2020 13:16

A has priority I think.

mygrandchildrenrock · 16/09/2020 13:18

A

RunningFromInsanity · 16/09/2020 13:20

Tricky one because technically B would be driving on Lancaster Way before the point where A needs to cross it.

In most situations A would go first.

Thunderblunder · 16/09/2020 13:23

I would say B as they would be on Lancaster Way before the road that A is on.

Clymene · 16/09/2020 13:26

A as they are on the right but only if they arrived at the junction at exactly the same time as B. There is a junction like this at the end of my road (and I am B) and it's very rare that we both get there at the same time. If I'm there first, I go first.

m0use · 16/09/2020 13:31

Nothing useful to add, but I used to drive up lanc road twice a day and never realised the crossroads were offset Shock

But A for the same reasons as others

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 16/09/2020 13:34

I would say that neither has right of way. They are both at give way signs. Looking at the picture I would say if they set off at the same time, then A should have time to get across the junction before B entered the road space. The same applies if A set off first.

If B set off first, then I would say they have right of way because by the time they cross in front of where A is, they are travelling along the major road.

Tippexy · 16/09/2020 13:36

They’re both at a give way crossing. Neither of them has right of way.

Quite shocking how many people are clueless about the rules of the road!

m0use · 16/09/2020 13:38

I think it's pretty clear from the OP and responses that she means other than the traffic on lanc road (who has ROW) who has priority...

Champagneforeveryone · 16/09/2020 13:57

I think there is no RoW. The junction is offset, so both A and B are turning right, albeit A is then immediately turning left.

HunkyPunk · 16/09/2020 14:04

Did you have an altercation, op?

DrivingHelpMe · 16/09/2020 14:14

No - no altercation! I did see two cars having this problem in front of me though and it made me think.

Thanks for your replies. @m0use - I know - I hadn’t realised it was offset either!

A.
Give way does not mean you have to stop. Stop only means you have to stop to check the junction is clear. B is crossing A's lane thus A has priority.

Cavagirl · 16/09/2020 14:23

Is it an unmarked crossroads? If so, neither

StepawayfromtheBiscuittin · 16/09/2020 14:28

I'd have thought whoever was on the major road first.

DDiva · 16/09/2020 18:16

Who ever is on the main road first.

I dont think theres a definitive answer it's a bit like when there's a stalemate at a mini roundabout.

You should only proceed onto the main road if your route is clear ahead.
