New retainer after braces

Hi has anyone experience of a new night time retainer being a bit tight at first? Is it normal to be a bit sore (requiring calpol) the first couple of nights? Do they loosen up? (this is a week after fixed braces removed).

Was there a short period of time from braces coming off to getting the retainer? There can be slight movement.

I'm sure my dd had to wear them all the time to start with and then it reduced to night time only

She took them out to eat and drink but then they had to go back in again

I didn’t have to do that - but I did have a week’s gap between having the braces removed and getting the retainer. When I have a night off from wearing them, they feel tight the following night. (Wearing my old ones feels tighter than my newer ones too!)

Very normal
Still happens to me as an adult when I've not worn my retainers for a while

Thank you so much for replying, helpful to hear experiences. She has fixed retainers as well, and was told her plastic ones are for night time in addition. Realise this aspect may be different from others' instructions.

It's more that I was wondering about the initial discomfort so reading these replies maybe it's because of the few days where the retainer was being made. Hopefully will get easier
