Where can I donate underwear?

DS has outgrown piles of perfectly good children's pants. Mostly stretch cotton boxers in good condition - colours still vivid etc.

Smalls for All take second hand bras but only new pants, and I can't find anyone else. Is a clothes bin my only option?

“Barbados Children” shop takes good condition underwear in our town.

Toilenstripes · 16/09/2020 09:25

Seriously? No one wants pre-loved underpants. 😬

ExclamationPerfume · 16/09/2020 09:30

I give them to the school for accidents. Most that get sent home aren't returned.

Except perhaps people who have no means at all to buy new ones.

Please see above, Barbados Children will take them. I’m pretty sure they wash them first.

Frazzled2207 · 16/09/2020 09:38

i put mine in fabric recyling. Small childrens' you can donate as spares to nurseries but I have always failed to do anything useful with older childrens' or grown up pants.

I had to read this three times before I realised @ExclamationPerfume wasn’t talking about some School for Accidents Grin

Barnardo's I think Barbados is supposed to be!

WunWun · 16/09/2020 09:46

I always give them to the school.

The British heart Foundation take clothes for scrap too.

LouiseNW · 16/09/2020 09:46

Indeed, haba 😂

BikeRunSki · 16/09/2020 09:49

School! YR and Y1.

littlemsattitude · 16/09/2020 09:51

School, especially if they are older children's as some children with SEN can need them.

Really?

You don't think that there are displaced people/people living in poverty/people depending on foreign aid/kids living on rubbish dumps/people in refuges/on the streets who would be able to make use of hardly worn, thoroughly cleaned, good quality underwear?

All those people who depend on charity for clothes, wear underwear as well. I was just wondering if there was a specific charity for distribution.

@Toilenstripes, I can assure you that when DH was made redundant when I was on maternity leave, I was more than grateful for preloved pants for my toilet training toddler.

I can’t imagine that I am the only person who has ever been in this position. For us, fortunately, it was temporary, but for many people it won’t be. How fortunate you are not to even have to consider this.

Toilenstripes · 16/09/2020 11:45

Every single one of you can wind your necks in. I know virtue signalling is a big deal on MN, but not everyone automatically thinks about refugees and those on foreign aid when a question is asked on middle class MN. I lived in a women’s hostel and we were provided, if needed, with new underpants. It was considered inhumane to ask already traumatised women to wear used.

AlCalavicci · 16/09/2020 15:18

Check with them 1st but before covid H&M will take ANY clothing and all cloth ( towels sheets etc ) regardless of it's condition . As long as it is dry .
As a bonus they give you a £5 to use when you spend over £25 in store or on line. Even if there style of clothing is not to your tastes it can be spent on buying birthday _ Christmas clothing presents.

SoLongFurlough · 16/09/2020 17:31

FWIW refugees are provided with a brand new packet of underwear when they arrive
Agree with Toilenstripes no one wants your second hand pants OP

SlightlyJaded · 16/09/2020 17:47

Honestly, I can't believe people are being arsey about this. I wasn't sure if it was a thing that was of use to anyone so I checked. I agree that new underwear feels like 'the very least', but unfortunately sometimes that's not always an option is it?

I wouldn't offer my own or my 15 year old DDs, but nearly new, decent quality boxers, that have been worn a handful of times by a pre-pubescent boy are not remotely manky. I thought there might be a charity that distributes them to kids that might otherwise be running about in the same pair of pants for days or end.

If I was the mother of one of those kids, I'd gladly take them.

I agree with you @SlightlyJaded some people may not like the idea but for them that need them for their DSs I am sure they would be grateful.
Nobody is forcing anyone to take them .

Porridgeoat · 17/09/2020 04:51

Friends kids. Was useful when potty training and low on pants.

hippohector · 17/09/2020 08:27

I don’t see anything wrong with this. As long as they are thoroughly clean (washed at a high temp with detergent) then I can’t see the issue.
I had several pairs of good condition knickers that no longer fitted me (weight gain) and it seemed such a shame to bin them, but nowhere would take them! They were virtually brand new.
Like I say, as long as they have been properly washed there is no risk of catching anything nasty, so I really don’t see the issue!
