Renting / Notice and Viewings

I have been renting privately for 4 years. Last week I recieved notice to end the tenancy. My landlord wants to do viewings but I am uncomfortable with people coming in and out of the flat at all times can I ask they do a virtual tour or wear masks.

My landlord has also given me notice so she can sell, it's crap in the middle of a pandemic when there is hardly anything available! Even more insulting is me being expected to field all the calls from estate agents wanting to value/take pictures/ host a frigging OPEN DAY Shock whilst I try and find us a new home, touch up paintwork, de clutter etc ready to move and work full time!!

AnyFucker · 15/09/2020 20:20

Touch up paintwork ? Why are you doing that ?

The only responsibility you have is to sort out your own stuff and leave the place undamaged.

"Touching up paintwork" etc comes under reasonable wear and tear and I would consider that my responsibility

Very simple. Very. 'No. There will be no open day. There will be no viewings whilst we occupy this property.' 'No, we are not here to facilitate the sale of this property.' 'No, that doesn't work for us. We are leaving on X date.'

Just where I've hung mirrors and pictures - filling the hole and touching up. I've left the crumbling paint in the (freezing) extension and the mould in the bedroom to give the viewers a fair picture Smile but I need my deposit back!

I haven't agreed to any viewings. I can't even view the property I will most likely have to take due to over zealous bloody covid rules, and it's an empty property! So they can sod off if they think people are traipsing though my house before I leave.

Yeah, just tell them NO, there will be no open day. No, there will be no viewings whilst we occupy the property.

Thanks for signposting me to Shelter I spoke to a man this morning who gave me advice that until yesterday I didn't know.

So as a assured short hold term tenant I have to be given a section 21 notice (specific form) to leave the property and currently this notice period is 6 months. I did not recieve this. I don't need to tell the landlord that theyre/its wrong if I don't want to immediately and can leave it a while before informing them I'm not in a position to move or that notice wasn't served properly.

I have been advised that they can do viewings in the main areas only if there's not a risk to vulnerable/isolating people but not my personal room.

I also found out that as a renter I should have access to certain things which I do not so that also lessens their case.

Thank you
