moving out of north london, but where????

I've always lived in north/east london (which is where most of my family live) I completely fed up with the noise, rubbish, helicopters, crime.

So where would you suggest we move to? needs to be 4 bed, garden, commute to london (I think north or east of london so we can visit family) good schools, busy centre.

our flat would sell for around 350k although we'd quite like to keep it and rent it out and buy another house (might be a pipe dream) - we have 100k for a deposit.

We were thinking enfield but i'm now worried its not different enough. We've been to harlow and didn't really like it, I quite like Leigh on sea but wonder if its a bit small?

Please mumsnet help!

Or even Broxbourne. Very cheap. Very close to London and the m25, loads of outdoor space with the Lee valley.

Sorry for multiple posts, thinking aloud, Broxbourne has the fast train to Stratford too. Handy.

I'd start looking into commute times and costs from different locations. No point looking at lovely houses in different areas if the commute is too expensive, time consuming or eats into your family time.

St Albans is nice. Amersham, Chesham, Cheddington, Tring, not a grwt commute though. Faster trains go to Leighton buzzard and Milton Keynes, pretty much straight north.

This is so odd I'm about to move to Tottenham hale from way up north and nervous as hell

What about Cheshunt or Broxbourne ?
I agree with cramproll , ware , Hertford or bishops Stortford.
Puckeridge is nice but probably not busy enough for you.
Definitely don’t move to Enfield it’s just become an extension of Tottenham and Edmonton.

I'd look at Tonbridge or Sevenoaks. Surprisingly affordable. Fast trains into London. Safe quiet spaces. Good schools.
And lots of Essex is lovely. Along the edges of Epping Forest.

I also thought you might already live in Enfield. It is very much like the rest of North London without the convenience of the tube.

Bishops Stortford is a great town, so much going on. If you wanted smaller and you aren't in dire need of a train station look at Great Dunmow, nice friendly little market town, two very good primary schools, a large and a small supermarket, some decent independent shops and restaurants and lots for kids to do. Essex is generally cheaper than Herts.
