Computerised CBT - What to expect

Posting here for traffic.

I've just had my initial assessment telephone appointment and the therapist recommended computerised CBT for my treatment. There is a bit of a waiting list but not very long I am told.

What are your experiences of having CBT? I scored 12 on the PH 9 test which is low to moderate depression and I am suffering from intrusive negative memories.

Did CBT help you with your condition and how long was it before you felt better?

I've never had to do anything like this before, so I appreciate any response about experiences.

Thank you in advance.

Is this Beating The Blues? I am doing it and it's OK but I also have counselling (privately and through my work) and am taking part in daily challenges to get over my fears. The programme is good but I like using it alongside counselling.

I also don't always get the goals I set - but I think that is OK. Like, one week I wrote that I would go up a mountain on my own, and then found that too frightening.

No experience of computerised CBT but for self help I'd really recommend Kain Ramsay's CBT courses on Udemy. He's a very relatable and experienced counsellor and there are loads of downloadable resources.

They are often highly discounted to around £15 so don't buy at full price!

Thank you for your replies.
@theotherfossilsister I don't know about Beat the blues but he mentioned something about Silver cloud if that rings a bell.

When asked what I wanted to achieve in the long run, I said to wake up rested instead of having intrusive negative memories accuse me of being a terrible person.

I've completed a course on SilverCloud, I've found it very helpful, you can get a lot from it if you put the time in. You get a supporter who checks in with your progress fortnightly. You can send them messages and share any of the activities with them.

They do have the opportunity for three phone call reviews as well if you feel that would be helpful.

Hi @ShyOwl,

Thank you for your reply and insight to silver cloud. How long was it before you felt an improvement in your mood?

It's hard to pin point it as it is a grad progress, I also started tablets at the same time as well but I found after my second review I noticed an improvement.

We did that one over the phone so my supporter pointed me in the direction of the best module for me.

Thanks @ShyOwl.

I am hoping to avoid chemicals if possible.

@Ruminating2020 I did do a course at the end of last year with out tablets, it did help a little but I wasn't as committed so didn't see the long term benefits

I think the main thing is really embracing it and making the most of the supporters help, I write 1000 word messages to her for my reviews but it means I get really useful advice

Thank you @ShyOwl for sharing.
