Anyone know what this annual mouth / tooth pain is?

For the last 2 years in September I have developed severe tooth/mouth face pain. It lasts for a few weeks before going away. I went to the dentist last year to try and find out what the problem is and they told me my teeth are fine.

Right on cue the pain has come back again this year so that makes it 3 years in a row at exactly the same time of year. The pain is mainly in my top right teeth but it moves around the entire right side of my teeth top and bottom, front and back. It just comes and goes all day but seems better when I am chewing.

Last year I thought it was down to clenching my jaw at night when I was sleeping and thought I had sorted it with changing my sleep position but obviously not as its back.

Seems like some weird seasonal thing. I do suffer from chronic migraine but this pain seems separate from my migraines.

Any idea what it could be?

Sinus problem cause by seasonal allergies?

Is there any regular thing you do in September? A party, a school fair, an anniversary? Look on Facebook at previous years - maybe something will jump out.

It could well be your ear, I’ve been to the dentist with what turned out to be an ear infection before. Luckily she guessed what it was

Stress?

Could be from clenching your jaw/teeth. My dentist spotted I was doing this and I now have to make myself relax my jaw when I'm stressed.

I get random upper tooth pain on and off. I have been to the dentist about it in the past and nothing is wrong as far as they can see. They think it’s sinus pain- I had sinusitis during a pregnancy that I couldn’t take antibiotics for and it took ages to go. Since then, it keeps weirdly glaring up even though I can’t feel I’ve got anything blocked, not got a cold or anything. It can really affect the nerve above your teeth and make the whole side sore at the top normally. Do your gums also feel sore at the top when pushed?

Thanks everyone, I don't think its due to anything particular that I do around this time of year. I can't think of anything specific that triggers it other than the change of season / weather.

I don't think I am stressed any more than usual.

Ear problem, Sinuses issues and continued jaw clenching are possible. Sort of feel like the pain may trigger the jaw clenching rather than the other way round.

I get wierd toothpain, usually in my front teeth, when the weather changes, particularly when it gets colder. Neverfound any explanation for it.

Hmm interesting, I am experiencing some breathing issues at the moment which I suspect are seasonal (the carob trees around us are in flower, so it might be their pollen). I had similar symptoms in April.

As well as the breathing though, I have had sore teeth the past few weeks, but didn’t consider it could be connected. I had sore teeth back in April too and went to the dentist. She said my teeth were fine but I was probably grinding them in my sleep. She prescribed me a muscle relaxant to take before bed.

I’ve been keeping a symptoms diary this year in an attempt to get to the bottom of it (I’ve had the breathing thing for years). I will add the sore teeth to it.

How strange , I get the same thing .

I think I clench my teeth without even realising. I'm trying to be more self aware ...I've noticed that I clench my teeth whilst driving .

I think mine is related to the start of term/ academic year . I always feel under pressure and this is probably part of the cause .

Medioblu · 14/09/2020 12:38

I am prone to Sinusitis (usually in winter so december / January time) so perhaps it us that. My gums aren't sensitive to touch and the pain moves onto my bottom teeth also but only on one side.

I will probably need to speak to my gp but not sure they will see me.

Has the dentist done any x-rays recently?

I used to get that when my wisdom teeth were coming up.

WinterAndRoughWeather · 14/09/2020 12:40

It is possible that the anxiety from the breathing issue (it’s like an air hunger or shortness of breath, but it’s not related to exertion) makes my jaw clench and the tooth pain is then a secondary symptom.

LongDivision · 14/09/2020 13:11

I get tooth pain (although I suppose it's more gum pain) when I have a fever. Could there be something around this time that causes a slight fever? Back to school/work germs?

WrongKindOfFace · 14/09/2020 15:38

Why don’t you try some otc sinus medication and see if that helps? GP is unlikely to prescribe antibiotics until you’ve tried the self care route.
