coming off mini-pill

After a decade on it, post kids, have decided to come off it. Will use condoms instead on the rare occasions DP and I can get together! Its destrogel. Other than being quite short fused sometimes, I've not noticed too many side effects but am really struggling to lose weight I've gained recently, usual things not working. I'm mid forties. Just wondered what people's experiences were - did periods come back, how soon, any weight / mood changing? Thanks

I came off the mini pill when I was 47, I’d been having night sweats on and off for a few months and wanted to see if my periods would return.
They didn’t, menopause symptoms got worse, tried HRT for 18 months, two varieties and two different strengths. Felt crap on all of them so gave up.

oh dear, that's not encouraging. Did you go back on it?

No, I came off it, went to the doctor four months later to get HRT. I ended up with an emergency appointment after being given a higher dosage, three weeks earlier by a different GP. I was a wreck, in tears felt horrendous. She was lovely, put me back on a lower dose which I finished then stopped completely. It’s 19 months since I gave up.

I came off it because of the amount of irregular bleeding it was causing me. My myriad of moods swings and hormone issues all went away. Awful thing. My mood was much better. My periods hadn't stopped so they just carried on. I had the implant put in instead and that was awful too.

thank you - Ive not had any periods for years but obviously at mid forties, peri menopause could be a thing and it will all be mixed up together. Just nt sure what to expect
