Do heated clothes airers make laundry smell?

I hate that horrible damp laundry dried on a hot radiator smell but like the idea of these!

No, not all. The Lakeland clothes airer is really good in winter.

WehIstMir · 13/09/2020 20:34

No, not all. We have the Lakeland clothes airer for winter days and it dries laundry over night.

Florencenotflo · 13/09/2020 20:36

No, it doesn't dry instantly (it will dry a load during the day and another load overnight) but it never smells damp. I love coming home in the winter and the whole house smells like fabric conditioner from the washing drying!

Yonijust · 13/09/2020 20:37

Not at all.

I always give my washing an extra spin anyway then hang everything on the heated airer over the bars, I use a cover & usually have it on overnight.

Its dry by the morning, I usually put another load on before bed and empty the machine in the morning.

Then in the morning the dry stuff I fold and leave on the bottom shelf of the airer, then hang the next wet lot up, on the rails, for the day.

formerbabe · 13/09/2020 20:39

No it doesn't...i love mine. Things dry quicker on it if you lay them flat over the bars and I also throw a large sheet over the whole thing which speeds up drying time.. although I think there's a proper cover you can buy.

toomanyspiderplants · 13/09/2020 20:42

No. I love mine. .

Hawkmoth · 13/09/2020 20:43

I've bought one this week. I got it half price from the lakeland ebay outlet. It has a tiny dent in one bar. I love it already.

Thneedville · 13/09/2020 20:43

I’ll just add an extra No

DollyMixtureLulus · 13/09/2020 20:44

Oh this is exciting- and I didn't know about the outlet Shock

Is the cover essential?

OP posts:
JetBlackSteed · 13/09/2020 20:46

No to smells, and no to the cover being essential

alltalknobaby · 13/09/2020 20:48

Without the cover things take a lot longer to dry. I would disagree with PP and say the cover is essential.

Millie2013 · 13/09/2020 20:48

Nope, we cover ours with a spare sheet, the covers weren’t a thing when we bought ours, years ago

LindaFromMCC · 13/09/2020 20:48

Another nope from me...and OP, I'm excited for you. My Lakeland heated airer changed my life Grin and you've got this all ahead of you Grin

AriettyHomily · 13/09/2020 20:50

I hate my Lakeland airer, I really don't get the love!

Ernieshere · 13/09/2020 20:50

Is the cover essential?

Yes it is.

I'll hear no more about it.

You have to get one.

Grin
DollyMixtureLulus · 13/09/2020 20:54

As a natural pessimist I'm going to ask why @AriettyHomily...

Sauvignonblanket · 13/09/2020 20:57

I love mine...as well as a cover, it does help to put the heavier stuff at the top where the heat is greatest. hang jeans etc over one edge rather than stuffed through the bars, stretch everything out across the rail so there are no creases for damp and don't let items touch one another.

Magicbabywaves · 13/09/2020 20:59

No need for the cover if you use a bed sheet or duvet cover. Stuff takes longer to dry without that, but I saw no reason to buy a cover.

Ciunasbotharcailinbainne · 13/09/2020 21:08

We have one and it was a godsend in our flat as we couldn’t dry outside! We don’t use the cover.

We moved and now have it in an outbuilding shed type thing where it does take longer to dry and sometimes our clothes can smell a bit musty. I think that’s the room they’re in though but would appreciate any advice on how we can get them to always smelling fresh?

Are there any safety concerns from an accidental fire point of view? We don't have a garden and I've wondered about whether one of these would be good.

leolion1 · 13/09/2020 22:43

Also worth considering is using a dehumidifier. I have normal airers in the small spare room and run the dehumidifier for a few hours and it works like magic!

Sauvignonblanket · 14/09/2020 19:10

@MoonSauce - ours is often on 24:7 without any issues and it's good for heating the rest of the room.

I hate my Lakeland airer, I really don't get the love!

I bought one second hand with the cover and find it takes so long to dry clothes that they end up smelling damp. Never had that problem when I dried them on a normal airer and had the house heating on. Bit disappointed really and wondering if I should stop using the cover?
