Are you thinking of a UK holiday at half term?

We didn't get away in the summer. Various reasons, mostly that we didn't fancy it when restaurants etc were still getting to grips with the procedures and lots of places still closed, plus the prospect of hostile locals.

I was hoping we'd do something at half term, but now with the prospect of more local closures, I'm not sure if booking something is wise, partly because of the inconvenience and possible cost of having to cancel and partly because it doesn't seem entirely sensible to travel.

It would be lovely to do "something" though.

I also wonder if everywhere will be very busy, with lots of peope like us who didn't get away in the summer trying to make up for it.

We are hoping to go to Devon but it’s staying with friends so no outlay if we are in a bigger lockdown.

Figgygal · 13/09/2020 21:26

Yes but not booked anything yet
Can’t decide whether to do hotel or air bnb

Titsywoo · 13/09/2020 21:28

Camping?! In Oct?! That's either proper hardcore or mentally unstable.

BlackeyedSusan · 13/09/2020 21:57

No. Just paid an arm and a leg on next summer's holiday.

Gertie75 · 13/09/2020 22:49

We're going to our caravan, I'm expecting it to be busy, there's 100 pitches on the site and it's been full this summer whereas it's usually less than half full.

We’ve booked a couple of nights in A hotel in the Cotswolds. Just over an hour away and we don’t pay until we get there so won’t lose anything in case of lock down. Will be a change of scenery!

HelplessProcrastinator · 13/09/2020 23:40

We’ve got 4 nights in Somerset in a holiday cottage. Looking forward to it after summer plans had to be moved tone year then substitute camping holiday was cancelled due to storm Francis.

CountessFrog · 13/09/2020 23:46

We are going to Cornwall. Booked since last year. Had to pay the balance at the end of August, we had a chat about the potential situations and decided we would still want to go if things were more limited.

We were in Cornwall in August, too. It was no busier than usual and we didn’t catch any illnesses due to exercising common sense

blue25 · 13/09/2020 23:48

We’ve booked a cottage in the countryside for half term.

nancy75 · 13/09/2020 23:51

We were thinking about it as Dd gets 2 weeks, but school have just told us they’ll be doing exams in the second week & it’s not a holiday anymore so now it’s a no

AlwaysLatte · 13/09/2020 23:54

Definitely won't be going abroad this time (no trips abroad at all this year). We've had a couple of holidays in the UK this summer and people were pretty good about social distancing on the whole (and we went out of our way to avoid any possible hotspots, which helped). So we'll definitely go again on October unless numbers rise significantly or the rules change.

Not everybody is in the U.K.
Peony9876 · 14/09/2020 05:10

I would give it a couple of weeks before booking anyhing. We should know by then if we are facing exponential growth in case numbers.

Splendidseptember · 14/09/2020 07:32

We had b and b Brighton.
No contact with owners etc they drop food to door. I'm really hoping it goes ahead.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 14/09/2020 07:57

We've booked a cottage in Cornwall and have to pay the balance today. Just going to pay it and hope for the best. The company have promised to transfer bookings in the event of a lockdown preventing us from travelling. I'll be gutted if it didn't go ahead as I really do need a change of scenery.

middleager · 14/09/2020 08:08

Only a long weekend as DH working, but we will book the night before, like we did in the summer.

ifonly4 · 14/09/2020 08:20

We were thinking of a few days away around that time. Holding off booking for now, but hopeful.

lljkk · 14/09/2020 16:26

maybe... would be booked very last minute & weather dependent.

AudTheDeepMinded · 14/09/2020 16:30

We've had a short break in Wales booked since early Spring. Even if local attractions are closed I'm sure we'll be able to find somewhere to walk or paddle without the need to hole up and play games for the duration. If there is another lockdown hopefully we'll be able to move the booking to next year.

Kisforkaylied · 14/09/2020 16:33

We're going to a cottage in the lakes. Our various summer holidays were cancelled. Can't wait!

FizzyPink · 14/09/2020 16:48

I’m holding off booking anything until a few days before. We’ve had 4 holidays cancelled this year and I can’t bear anymore lost money or disappointment
