Any natural remedies for really heavy periods?

I suspect I am peri menopausal and in the last couple of years my periods have been heavier than they used to be, but manageable, however I got my period yesterday morning and last night had to get up twice to change my san pro. Not fun. I am lucky in that I don’t get any pain, but I wondered if anyone has had success in taking any natural remedies to help with this, as it’s just rather unpleasant!

Not natural remedies but boots sell tranexamic acid OTC or your dr can prescribe.

Again, not natural, but I take Naproxen and it really helps. I buy mine in tubs of 500 from the USA when we go home to visit, but you can get it on prescription in the UK if you tell your GP you have heavy and painful periods.

I used to have a colleague who swore that evening primrose and turmeric tea made her periods so much lighter but I can’t back that up myself.

Not natural but im on the mini pill. I was sterilised 10 yrs ago and in the last year they have become worse. Lots of big clots. So pill it was and I’ve just finished pack one and im on day 12 of heavy spotting.

Wasn’t expecting that but ill take my further 2 and then see how it is.

Check your iron level, when mine is low my periods are horrific and it's a viscious circle. I take Ferroglobin Plus every day and eat iron rich food which helps.

Tranaxemic acid was a godsend for me. Your GP can prescribe it.

Interesting...I'm going for a blood test tomorrow because I've been feeling really ropey and think my ferritin level is low. I don't normally have a problem with periods but this one has been horrible.

@Notcontent I also think I am peri-menopausal, and my mum took tranexamic acid for about 10 years IIRC.

lachy · 13/09/2020 20:18

Sorry... posted to soon.

It really helped her, stopped the sore boobs and clotting.

Thank you so much for all the helpful comments.

Interesting about iron. I used to eat a bit of chicken and red meat but stopped about a year ago so it’s possible my iron levels are low. I might also try tranaxemic acid.
