Does anyone else have a friend like this?

Who is always offended and upset by any perceived slight to them?

This is going to be a bit of a rant...

Some examples

Leaving a mutual friends house I bump into them at the gate and they say "Is it something I've done?" Errr no, I wasn't thinking about you when I decided to leave the house Confused

Passive aggressive posts on social media when you meet up with mutual friends.

Having a gathering for your birthday, them finding out about it and asking why they weren't invited. This one pissed me off no end cos I can choose who I invite to my own home.

They're not going to be a friend much longer if this carries on. I'm tempted to block them on my phone but I feel really guilty doing so and I think they'll send their flying monkeys to find out why.

How would you handle it?

Sounds like you don’t really like them anyway.

Grellbunt · 13/09/2020 09:17

People need to understand the difference between a friend and an acquaintance.

CormoranStrike · 13/09/2020 09:18

Is she an acquaintance not a friend? A friend I would invite out I think.

OohKittens · 13/09/2020 09:20

I need to know why she wasn't invited to the birthday Grin

blossomtree323 · 13/09/2020 09:26

@grellbunt Fair play. I think I've grow to dislike constantly having to justify my choices and movements. Plus I think I do view them as an acquaintance and they view me as a close friend. Which is awkward.

@OohKittens Due to COVID restrictions.

Sounds like your friend is quite insecure. I can see why she might feel left out of the birthday celebrations. No one mature needs to make passive aggressive comments on Facebook.

billybagpuss · 13/09/2020 10:06

Is she actually being serious? The ‘is it something I’ve done’ is used by some people as a joke, banter style, similarly the ‘where’s my invite’ which you can just bat back with ‘sorry just us this time but when are you going to buy me a drink?’ I have a friend and we are often like that with each other, but other friends would take offence so we don’t.
