Her or me

I've had a few wines, I'm not 100% sober so I may regret and delete this.

My youngest daughter is exceptionally skilled in a sport which she adores. It's a lifestyle and she's a natural. For years I have managed to accommodate her schedule by working specific hours.

Obviously the older she gets and the more she progresses within the sport, the more it costs. As well as the position I currently work in becoming toxic and unstable, I have an opportunity to take up a full time position elsewhere. I can't lie - we need the money.

However, childcare and getting the little one to her club would be almost impossible. I have no idea if I could find a childminder who could feed her a nutritious meal and drop her off 3 nights a week and halfway through the day on a Friday - do they even do that when they have other kids to look after?

My husband works a fair distance away - it's not an option for him to help.

If I take the job I want (which I haven't even freaking interviewed for yet ffs talk about getting ahead of myself) it may be that she is unable to commit to the hours required to continue with the sport she loves, which kind of makes it all moot anyway.

Thanks for allowing me the platform to rant!

How old is your daughter?

isurvived3under2 · 11/09/2020 23:14

Get a nanny to take her? £9 an hour where I live. Would your new job allow you to pay for it?

mylittleyumyum · 11/09/2020 23:22

She's 9, this is an all or nothing year ahead thanks to lock down. I hadn't considered a nanny, childcare is so new to me. Wow, this may really help

If it were me I’d take the job if it were offered to me and do my best to accommodate her sport interest.

Lollypop4 · 11/09/2020 23:37

Take the job.
A nanny might well be the answer or ad for "home help". Ive just gobe self employed , supporting people in the community, I cover all ages, families inc..., I would assist you and your child, I think there might be a few out there that could.
Good Luck for the Job
