Before new guidelines come in on Monday, can I organise an outdoor party consisting of several households and just under 30 people In total for Sunday?

I'm so confused by current guidelines, let alone changing guidelines.

Sorry, should clarify, this was a question my cousin asked me. I don't know the answer. I do know the moral answer though.

Your cousin could, but that doesn't mean that they should.

SleepingStandingUp · 11/09/2020 18:48

This is why they should bring in these rules to start on a Friday

ForeverBubblegum · 11/09/2020 18:51

Your cousin wouldn't be braking the law by doing so, and nobody could stop them.

BUT - just because someone legal does not make it a good idea

FunTimes2020 · 11/09/2020 19:00

Your cousin should really think for themselves. Its pretty clear it would be legal but morally wrong. I suppose there is a delay in start to new rules to allow time for cancellation of events..not to arrange a last minute shindig!

daisypond · 11/09/2020 19:03

No, they can’t. It was only 30 people if those people are from two households, so 15 per households, for example.

MadamFlutterby · 11/09/2020 19:19

I will let him know

@MadamFlutterby

I will let him know
That MN think he's being a dick?
MadamFlutterby · 11/09/2020 19:22

ABSOLUTELY

OP posts:
DonaldTrumpsChopper · 11/09/2020 19:22

Yes, he can legally.

LadyCatStark · 11/09/2020 19:23

No unless he wants to invite the Radfords round for tea.

TeddyIsaHe · 11/09/2020 19:24

I’m having a birthday party for my friend tomorrow, there will be 30 people in the garden/house. It was planned in 3 weeks before we knew the rule change. We’re definitely still going ahead - I have gallons of champagne that needs to be drunk!

MadamFlutterby · 11/09/2020 19:24

Can someone lead me to a link that shows current guidelines say this is a no no please. Ill forward it to him

OP posts:
SummerHouse · 11/09/2020 19:27

I have gallons of champagne that needs to be drunk!

This applies as an exemption to the new law surely!? Grin

TeddyIsaHe · 11/09/2020 19:28

There is no link, the rules don’t come into force until Monday.

This is mumsnet, where if you went out for chocolate in lockdown you were a LITERAL MURDERER. Everyone’s bonkers about the rules here.

MadamFlutterby · 11/09/2020 19:32

I'm talking about the CURRENT rules

OP posts:
ZaZathecat · 11/09/2020 19:43

Current rules for outside is up to six people from various households OR up to 30 from just 2 households.
I'll try to find a link.

ZaZathecat · 11/09/2020 19:49

Can't find a link to the current rules as they've updated it now for 14th Sept see www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do but it is definitely what I said.

DonaldTrumpsChopper · 11/09/2020 19:58

The two household thing is guidance. Actual law is 30.

Dizzywizz · 11/09/2020 22:13

I thought 30 was just for weddings and funerals?

DonaldTrumpsChopper · 12/09/2020 07:34

The new law, if it actually goes through on Monday, will be 30 for weddings and funerals. Current law is 30 for everything.

CormoranStrike · 12/09/2020 07:51

Your cousin is being an idiot

mosscarpet · 12/09/2020 07:55

so, the thing is CURRENTLY there is a difference between GUIDANCE and LAW. Legally you can currently have a gathering of up to 30 people from any number of households. The GUIDANCE suggested 6 people and 2 households but this was not law (from around 20th June .)
From Monday LAW will be 6 people. end of. doesnt matter how many households.

mosscarpet · 12/09/2020 07:56

sorry, yes should add, new law from Monday will have exemptions such as weddings and funerals.
