Name changed for this. I could really do with some advice as to how to word this gap on my CV - here's the timeline:

Sep 2016- Aug 2018: was at university doing a degree (I'm a mature student in my mid 40s)

Aug 2018: Moved to another part of the country so arranged to transfer to a different university. House move was delayed so I had to defer my uni place till Sep 2019. I did not look for work in the meantime as I was on the waiting list for a hysterectomy which kept getting pushed back.

May 2019 - finally had hysterectomy. Due to complications with recovery I had to defer uni place again until Sept 2020.

Current situation - student finance have refused funding due to my 2-year deferral. I'm still going through the appeals system but it won't be processed in time for this academic year so going back to uni is no longer an option as I can't risk my appeal failing. I'm in good health now so need to look for work.

I have no idea how to word my 2 year gap out of the workplace/uni from 2018 onwards, do I just put on my CV something along the lines of "details available on request" or do I need to give some details, and if so, how? Any advice much appreciated.

Career break due to relocation and study.

Thank you - would I date that straight from 2016?

Put the dates you were studying in location A, as you have done above.
Then put X date - Y date: career break due to relocation and transfer of studies (or similar).

I'm a recruiter and I don't mind what candidates have been up to, I just don't like mysterious gaps that mean I have to try and play detective to get to the truth. I always do a mental tally of the dates in the CV to make sure they add up (you'd be surprised how many people say they completed a BSc in a year, for example, and it then turns out it's unfinished).

Make life easy for your recruiter - they will appreciate it! Be clear and honest, but don't get into loads of detail because presumably that period of time is the least relevant thing on your CV, so you want the focus to remain on your relevant skills and experience.
