If your babies measured small during pregnancy, are they short as children/adults?

Just that, really! I'm the shortest person from a tall family, and my husband is the tallest person from a short family, and I'm curious as to how tall our baby will be! Had a growth scan at 28 weeks and the baby is measuring at the 40th percentile. I don't mind at all whether they are tall, short or average, I just wondered whether fetal measurements is an accurate predictor of future height!

Thanks in advance!

My 5lb 4oz interuterine growth retardation Baby is now taller than dh about 5, 10 I would say at 17.

Mine were all pretty small dd1 5lb 12oz, dd2 5lb 9oz and dd3 5lb 7oz. Dd2 was predicted to be measuring small at 35 weeks but is the tallest of all three girls, and taller than both myself and dh. She’s the exception, in terms of height, in our family. I think she takes after my paternal grandmother who was tall and large boned. Birth weight doesn’t give any indication of adult height, in my opinion.

Both mine were small both during pregnancy and at birth (though thin rather than short at birth). Dd weighed 2.9 kilos at birth, ds 2.5. Both taller than average as adults. Their father and I are not particularly tall, but there are tall people in the family on either side.

Day before I was induced DD measured short leg length on a scan. She came out with really long legs though so was wrong. She's now 5 and much taller than her 6 year old cousin.

DS2's femur length was 40 weeks+ at 34 weeks. When born he was predicted to be freakishly tall. But he is just under 6'.

My DS was bigger than average throughout and I had growth scans every 2 weeks (not because he was big, because of an issue that turned out not to be an issue).

He’s about 2nd centile now.

@passthemustard

Just to offer some reassurance, my baby's femur measurement was too small to even be on the centile scale. He was born a tiny 5lbs 2 but is now average height/weight (although he has shorter legs with a longer body) , no problems at all during pregnancy or birth, just a small baby. Smile

Birth weight has no relation to adult height, so many factors involved!

Duckyneedsaclean · 10/09/2020 21:51

I had a 4lb2 baby at at full term - at 3 she's the average height of a five year old.

Aurelia1313 · 10/09/2020 21:58

DD had reduced growth in the womb was much of the pregnancy on the bottom line of the growth chart, she's now nearly 2 and on the petite side of average. I think a previous poster pointed out you can't forget to take diet and environment in to consideration, my daughter was an early walker and never stops moving!
