Anyone else's DC fake coughing?

DS 10 woke up this morning, told me he didn't want to go to school, gave a few pathetic coughs into his elbow and said I couldn't send him in as he clearly has a cough! Give me strength 🙄

Yes & it was bound to happen. Half a dozen children in our class produced packets of tissues in a very dramatic fashion yesterday, placing them on their desks and announcing that "they might need to go home if they became any worse" They were all fine.😉

Fake 'not tasting here'. DD been at home since Tuesday after school sent her home. She realised in maths lesson that she couldn't taste. She has a history of creative maths lesson avoidance. Pretty much admitted she's made it up but can't go back until we get a negative test. We''ve not received our kit yet so that's this week of school lost.

I'm a single parent and my work is not only vital in keeping us financially afloat but it's my lifeline to sanity. I had 3 lovely days back, seeing my colleagues having grownup conversations and now I'm stuck sitting on a sofa trying to work and homeschool.

Pissed off.

Ughh it's a nightmare isn't it. DS1 inhaled toast crumbs at breakfast and was coughing up a storm trying to get it out as I faffed around trying to get him to drink water instead of cough. I had this horrible vision of him being sent home because of toast crumbs, and told him to make sure he told his teacher straight away about the toast incident in case he had to cough again at school!!

Oh, you could have some fun with that NoToast! All those meals she complains about won't matter if she can't taste them Grin

I haven't had a call yet, so it can't be a serious cough. I think I'll have to spell it out to him what quarantine means....more school work from me than he'd ever be given at school and no going out to play!

I'm waiting for my DD to figure this one out. Started Monday and managed to have Tuesday and Wednesday off already as she was presented the opportunity by school to eat something that she's intolerant too, grasped it with both hands and triggered the 48 hour d&v rule. She knew what she was doing too. As soon as one of her classmates are removed due to a cough and she will be putting one on.

Few kids in DDs class have faked coughs and sore throats. Their parents have been fuming due to work arrangements etc but obviously the school have to take them seriously. I think some of them have gotten so used to being home they're struggling in school and are missing their parents. Luckily DD loves school and kicks off when she can't go in.

My eldest has already been warned if she tries this I will make the 2 weeks she is off a living hell. She has a habit of faking feeling ill to try and get off school (not that it ever works, not sure why she bothers trying)

roadsurvey · 10/09/2020 11:45

A friend of mine D.C. said they couldn't taste their food thinking it would get them out of school for 2 weeks. Turns out it got her a covid test which was a good lesson in why not to lie to get out of school Grin

I would be cooking everything she doesn’t like to eat for the next week, after all, it won’t be an issue for her if she can’t taste anything 🤷🏻‍♀️

Might make her think twice next time.

Mayswear · 10/09/2020 12:37

I've heard the test is quite unpleasant... I've been worried about this too. I think children will cotton on quickly.

captainprincess · 10/09/2020 12:38

@MrsGarethSouthgate yes, great idea!
Reminds me of a colleague who mentioned 50 times a day how she couldn't taste or smell anything, had lost the senses in an accident apparently. So we nominated her to clear up the milk that turned to lumps in the fridge as she couldn't smell it.....after her running to the toilet to vomit she didn't mention it again Wink

WankPuffins · 10/09/2020 12:42

Yes.

We moved across the country in jan (through necessity not choice) and Dd hates her new school - she only started last week as she didn’t get a place until lockdown started. To be fair, it’s a shit school but the only one that had a place.

But yeah, she’s been taking a huge interest in covid symptoms and doing a great job at pretending she has them in the hope of two weeks at home. It’s breaking my heart really, she’s only 6 and so homesick.
