DD wants a water flosser for birthday

And I absolutely have no clue.
Lives in student flat and doesn’t have a shaver point/ electric plug. Is that a deal breaker ?

Buy an adaptor plug so she can use a normal electric plug point and get her a water flosser. It'll make a massive difference to her teeth and gums. I use mine every day and it's much easier than using dental tape. My dentist is happy so I guess it's as effective!

Mine is chargeable off normal plug then the charge lasts for weeks! Off Amazon :)

I got a Phillips but only because it was half price in Boots a couple of years ago. Its a bit odd at first but then becomes strangely addictive!

I have used one for years. Mine is a Waterpik water flosser. It works really well. It uses a normal UK plug socket to charge. Charge lasts for ages.

I have a waterpik one but mine is not rechargeable.
But I'll admit to using it over the kitchen sink in holiday apartment!

I have a fixed brace on the back of my teeth which probably collects gunk...
Would it be suitable with that? Does it hurt if you're teeth are a bit sensitive?

I've never heard of this... is it worth getting one? I hate flossing because I get squicked out at the feeling of the thread on my gums.

I bought my DH one of these years ago, a Philips Sonicare Airfloss for around £75, he didn't use it much though to be honest. Last year I bought him a Turewell Water Flosser from Amazon for £24, he uses this one all the time, he says it's much better than the Philips one and has better features. The Turewell flosser has a really long battery life and is charged by a usb lead, it's also much easier to clean.

Dentist told my DH they were pointless. He said that you actually need to put something between your teeth to make a blind bit of difference to plaque. Can see they would help with braces though

In a shared bathroom so I like the sound of portable / cordless.

Has a fixed brace wire also.
Now to decide which brand . Size wise it is only for one person as no family use.

No it doesn’t hurt but there are differing levels of intensity. You can also use warm water if your teeth are sensitive to the cold. I put a little bit of mouth wash in warm water.

I hve it. I’m pretty sure it does fuck all. I used it for about a month and felt/ saw no difference. Plus it’s terribly messy (ir maybe it’s just me!).

DH has a waterpik. I confess on the few occasions I've used it, it looks like there has been a murder. Thats more to do with my gums than it though, but it is quite violent.
I prefer floss, it doesn't leave me bleeding.

I wonder if that dentist has actually ever used one? I got one for Christmas and it is honestly fab. I can't go to bed until I have used it because I can feel the crud between my teeth. I have experimented by using my waterpik and then using the little wire brushes afterwards and there is nothing coming off in the wire. My teeth are also a few shades lighter than they used to be which is a bonus.

Don't get a hand held, they don't have enough water in them for a whole cleaning session, get a tank one. They have plugs too so you can put them on an extension lead. They are amazing.

I am OBSESSED with mine, I use it twice a day! I used to floss and use my electric toothbrush but my teeth never felt as clean as they do now. I brush thoroughly and still when I use the water flosser afterwards I have bits of food coming out!

The one I have (Pecham) advises you start off on the gentle mode until your gums get used to it - it does have some force. I use warm water because I have sensitive teeth.

I have one and its an essential post brush ritual now. I have overcrowding so i don't have enough room to floss but the water flosser gets so much crap out from between my teeth. TMI alert but I saw the GP last year for a weird fuzz on my tongue (tests came back normal, dentist had no issues) and this has got rid of it. My teeth feel so clean!

Trusted amazon delivered my water Flosser earlier this evening.

I can't believe the amount of people who have these haven't put a fucking advisory on using them - so I'll give you all a public service announcement.

  1. They are bloody huge- not a Scooby where I'll store it.
  2. Do not use cold water, felt like i had artic snow in my mouth
  3. Do not press the button before it's in your mouth, my bathroom mirror looks like a water park.
  4. Fucking hell its the same power as my jet cleaner for the patio, thought i was going to loose a tooth.

In summery it was a complete clusterfuck for 5 mins. But my teeth do feel very clean.

Disclaimer- mine seems to be a Chinese copy, not sure if the £80 ones will also make your teeth feel like they are being pulled by a man in an interrogation camp.
