Is it
Mask to be worn pass this point
Or
Mask to be worn past this point
Or
Mask to be worn passed this point

I think it's the first sentence.

Please help!

Past

Mask to be worn past this point

thistimelastweek · 09/09/2020 15:03

It's 2, past this point

QuentinInQuarantino · 09/09/2020 15:03

The second. "Pass" and "passed" are both verbs whereas "past" is a preposition of place, just like "beyond."

Oh dear, I need to brush up on my grammar!

You're saying a mask must be worn beyond this point, past is instead of beyond.

If you were saying a mask was to be worn in order to pass this point then pass would be correct. However if this were the case, it is also implied that a mark is only to be worn in order to pass this point. Once beyond the point, it could be taken off.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 09/09/2020 15:06

Past

senua · 09/09/2020 15:06

Actually, "beyond" might be a better word. A pedantic soul could argue that 'past' means "as you are passing this precise point but it is permitted to take them off again after that".

wowfudge · 09/09/2020 15:07

Mask not mark obviously

wowfudge · 09/09/2020 15:09

I disagree senua, for the reasons I've given in my second post. Past is instead of beyond and effectively has the same meaning.

wowfudge · 09/09/2020 15:11

To clarify, it doesn't have the meaning you've said it could.

senua · 09/09/2020 15:19

Isn't 'beyond' the normal wording for warning / advisory signs?

Mytho · 09/09/2020 15:20

Past

Whatisthisfuckery · 09/09/2020 15:22

It should be ‘beyond this point’ really.

CorianderLord · 09/09/2020 15:32

Past.

You're going past the point.

You can't go pass the point.

You can't go passed the point.

You pass, you are passed, you go past.

@wowfudge

If saying that, you would say 'mask to be worn TO pass this point'.
BlusteryShowers · 09/09/2020 15:52

I know that Extracurricularfatigue, thanks.

Extracurricularfatigue · 10/09/2020 12:23

I thought you probably did, but I thought it was worth clarifying for anyone who might not.

AriettyHomily · 10/09/2020 12:27

Beyond this point
