Really itchy legs!!

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I always seem to have really itchy legs, particularly my calves, and up towards behind my knee, as well as my shins and quads.

No idea what is causing this, it doesnt ever feel better, i try to avoid scratching as i domt really get any relief, and it gets sore if i scratch too much. Not sure whether to try lotions or creams or whether that will make it worse.

Ive also noticed random bruises on my legs, this is most likely because im clumsy (although dont remember specifically banging into anything) but im now worried they mught be connected?

Its been going on for months and months, and getting worse i think. Fed up of either being uncomfortable and itchy or scratching and sore, and still itchy!!

No idea about the bruises, but I suddenly developed unbearably itchy legs one day. Tried various things and discovered it was caused by gluten - cleared up within four days once I'd changed my diet. Haven't been able to have gluten ever since, but no more itching.

Low ferritin levels and anaemia can cause itchiness.

Speak to your GP op...it sounds like you need a blood test.

JadesRollerDisco · 08/09/2020 22:58

Are your clothes tight? What are they made of? What washing powder are you using? Could be an allergy, a skin irritation, poor circulation, or the symptom of more serious. If you've ruled out anything environmental then get to your GP

Could you be menopausal? I got itching quite badly on my legs - I used to take an antihystamine and used the E45 itch relief cream and it did help.
Definitely get a blood test though.

ScottishStottie · 09/09/2020 06:47

Im 30 so probably not menopausal, but not impossible i suppose.

I thought it might be to do with wearing tights, i wear them for work, but during lockdown and on days off ive been wearing cotton pyjama bottoms and its still the same. Need to try changing washing detergent but woukdnt that make me itchy all over rather than legs?

I think its still difficult to get a face to face appointment at my surgery, do you think they would do a blood test for this symptom alone?

Definitely would contact your GP. It could be allergy, thyroid, vascular and a blood test would be useful
in working out what might be causing it. It’s gone on a long time and if anything is getting worse so I don’t think it would be a good idea to leave it. Itching non stop sounds miserable.

hi,

have you got any answer, I am experiencing same problem, booked in for a blood test on coming Wednesday, but its deriving me crazy from a while now, Please help

LaBellina · 22/10/2021 15:54

I have a suspicion I might be suffering from iron deficiency/ anemia and when I googled the symptoms this morning, yours came up as one of the symptoms. I remembered it because I have had this in the past. I take iron supplements now and make sure I eat enough meat, vegetables and get a good healthy dose of vitamin C as well.

I agree with getting a blood test but in the meantime try aqueous cream with menthol. I had the most horrendously itchy legs the first half of this pregnancy (had a blood test, nothing to worry about just hormones) and this was a life saver!

Dry skin? Try aveeno lotion every night before you go to sleep. It’s really amazing
