I must be weird because I don't understand the paying yourself to clean thing. The money in my account is mine whether I clean or not. I wouldn't be any better off 'paying' myself.
Have i missed something? Confused

Robot hoover (we have a neato)

monkeyonthetable · 08/09/2020 22:39

5 minute room rescues. Set a timer and see what you can do in just five minutes. It's quite impressive what a visual difference you can make in a very short time. I hate cleaning but even I can clean for five minutes.

Do mindless sneak cleans. While the kettle is boiling, wipe down surfaces. Or polish mirrors and taps while cleaning your teeth.

Use big car wash sponges for cleaning the bath. And those very wide swiffle mops that sweep and mop at the same time for the floor. Use ready diluted no need to rinse spray cleaner on the floor.

DustyLoafer · 08/09/2020 22:40

For all those with a robot hoover, don't you still have to clean hard floors and wipe down skirting boards?
We don't have any carpets so I can't see a robot hoover saving me a lot of work.
It certainly wouldn't fit under my sofa.

AlCalavicci · 08/09/2020 22:51

Eufys vac hard floors very well and you can get ones that mop too , yes you would still have to wipe skirting boards but you can do that while Eufy is doing his thing. and IMO skirting boards dont need doing that often .
My sofa is to close to the floor for him to get under so too close for dirt to get under too so I just pull them out about once a month.

I love been able to get on with cooking the sunday dinner while he is pootling about and coming home to a clean floor everyday is like having cleaning faeries .

I pay myself from the joint account and it must only be used for frivolous items that you wouldn't ordinarily buy - it's a bit of fun
TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 09/09/2020 13:17

Ah OK. That kinda makes sense. I'm a single parent so no joint account here to pay myself from. And no spare money either Grin

Hop over to the thread 'new Eufy Parents '
( sorry can't do links on my phone ) or search my name to find it.
Lots of questions answered on their, but yes he is great at edges and only misses about 2 or 3 inches in the corners .
And won't throw himself down the stairs, but also won't clean them, so I bought a little dustbuster type vac last week to do the stairs .[/quote]
Thanks @AlCalavicci! I told DH I wanted one for Christmas but he’s ordered one to come on Saturday.

Lucked · 09/09/2020 13:49

Mine is quite basic but I straighten and do a quick clean of rooms in this order daily.

Bedrooms when I get up curtains open, beds made and nothing on the floor.

Lounge I tidy immediately after the kids have gone to bed then I only have to straighten cushions when we go to bed.

Bathroom I give the shower a quick clean when I am in it in the morning the toilet and sinks in the evening- I do the sink immediately after doing my teeth as I am always the last.

Kitchen is mostly DHs domain but he ignores clutter and doesn’t put things away properly so I do that in the evening after he has put on the dishwasher on usually whilst making a cup of tea.

Lounge I tidy immediately after the kids have gone to bed then I only have to straighten cushions when we go to bed.

Placemarking to read as I need tips too.

My one tip is to build up habits in small steps, little by little - so it becomes part of your everyday routine. It's far less stressful if it just becomes something you do without having to think. Don't instigate a big complex routine all in one go.

VesperLynne · 09/09/2020 14:54

Get a cleaner. We did and it was amazing. She used to do all the kids rooms and their washing. Bloody marvel.

lazylinguist · 09/09/2020 15:28

I hate cleaning too. I'm afraid the only tip that really reduces the time you spend cleaning is...do less cleaning. Grin

I quite like a schedule though and I use an app called 'Lady Fly', based on the Fly Lady website (but without the twee annoyingness). It's totally customisable. It makes me more organised with my housework and makes me feel smug when I tick things off, but obviously it doesn't magically save time or give me less to do!

For all those with a robot hoover, don't you still have to clean hard floors and wipe down skirting boards? We don't have any carpets so I can't see a robot hoover saving me a lot of work.

I love my robot vacuum and I have only hard floors - not a single bit of carpet in my house. I really quickly swoosh a soft broom along the skirting boards and then the robot does the rest. In fact it's merrily zooming around right now while I MN do other important stuff!

Nice to see so many members of the ‘Eufy Parents’ thread on here. No one, as far as I can see, has bad word to say about them. I started that thread and feel very proud of its 500 plus posts. So often any contribution by me anywhere kills a thread stone dead.

Sexnotgender · 09/09/2020 16:31

@GingerAndTheBiscuits

Eufy robot vacuum!
This! Plus an actual cleaner.
AlCalavicci · 09/09/2020 16:53

@TrickyD
It was a great thread to start up. I think you should get a hefty discount or free Eufy from the Eufy company , they must of made a packet over the past few weeks thanks to your thread .

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/09/2020 17:27

Robot hoover (I have a basic eufy)
A spray mop from home bargains £6. Loads of Addis spare heads £2 on amazon.

Put everything in the dw. Extractor fan filters, soap dishes, the shelves out the oven, fridge plastics (gentle setting).

You can buy micro fibre gloves off amazon for cleaning stuff, not tried them yet.

TrickyD · 09/09/2020 18:00

Thanks AlCalavicci, sadly no free Eufy!

Roselilly36 · 09/09/2020 18:36

Have two Vacuums one upstairs & One downstairs Cordless are easiest.
Keep cleaning supplies in every bathroom, saves you walking from room to room.
Tidy as you go.
Find a place for everything, so nothing gets lost.
Music can help too, or speaking to a friend on speakerphone while you are cleaning.
